Chris Alcaraz

About Me

Building on a roots rock foundation, Chris' high-spirited tunes jangle and grind with powerful, distinctive hooks and shimmering vocal harmonies in an utterly modern yet timeless collection of music that would get the dead tapping their toes. He is a performer in every sense of the word and his shows always leave an audience smiling long after the last notes have faded.Chris started out in music as a four-year-old classical violinist, and has entertained audiences around the world ever since. His professional gigs began at fourteen along with drummer and fellow Beatle nut Travis McNabb (Sugarland, Better Than Ezra). He later attended Arizona State University on a jazz bass scholarship and played double bass in the University Symphony Orchestra. During this time he worked with Grammy nominee Joey Cadrecha and Grammy winning producer Mike Broening (who has also worked on Chris' latest album). As an accomplished blues musician, Chris also backed blues icons Joe Houston and Bo Diddley. After graduation, his move to Austin, Texas meant delving deeper into fundamental American musical roots and laying down grooves with players from The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Asleep At The Wheel, Junior Brown and Texas Tornados. During a show with pianist Wiley Cousins, Ernie Durawa of the Tornados called Chris to the stage where he delivered his trademark powerhouse performance. Wiley asked Chris to co-found The Well Hungarians. Chris produced their first CD, and they toured extensively in the U.S. and abroad. The group relocated to meet their growing popularity overseas where Chris recorded again with them on his debut solo CD. While these richly satisfying sounds clearly contain a mixture of back-to-basics melodic guitar-pop influences, the music's freshness and breadth takes it well beyond a mere combination of the artist's tastes. These are sincere, substantial songs that Dutch radio describes as having a warm familiarity they call "gezellig." In America we just say it makes you feel good.Currently, Chris is back in the U.S. putting the finishing touches on his latest solo release. Preview the new songs "You Really Don't Care" and "Gone Gone Gone" right here on My Space. He is also touring and recording a follow-up release with his band More Love. If you haven't already caught his act, his music will enrich and inspire while his high-flying energetic antics border on acrobatic and have to be seen to be believed. Coolest recent gig? "Opening for ZZ Top was amazing." "Elvis may be the King, but Billy Gibbons is the Guru." I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4

Band Members: Chris Alcaraz - Bass, double bass and vocals, Peter Storn - Guitar and vocals, Ricky Serrano - Guitar, Dave Gary - Drums
Influences: The Beatles were a musical and cultural phenomenon that wiped clean and redrew the face of popular music. Although they disbanded before I was born, they are the primary reason I have dedicated my life to music. As for other influences, where do we start? Just scratching the surface, there's an amazing lineage that goes back to Robert Johnson and runs through artists like Big Joe Turner, Ray Charles, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Gene Vincent, Little Richard and Buddy Holly. They layed the foundation for rock's high renaissance led by groups like The Stones, Byrds, Who, Kinks, Yardbirds and of course Dylan & Hendrix. The next evolutionary phase branched off into Springsteen and my next biggest influence, Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers. I also owe more than a passing nod to Neil Young, John Hiatt, Joe Jackson, Stray Cats, The Pretenders, The Wallflowers, The Jayhawks and Chris Isaak to name but a few. From pre-army Elvis to Elvis Costello, there's so much energy in substantial music everywhere. Just go and listen.Currently spinning: Jeff Buckley - Grace
