MyGen Profile Generator MyGen Profile GeneratorCrispin (The Pump) Taylor got involved in music about 11 years old playing Bass with his mates at school. Around that time he was exposed to Rufus and Earth Wind and Fire round his mate Babels house and was captured by the Funk.
Grew up in North London listening to Headhunters and loads of Soul and Jazz then got work drumming in various Punk and Indie bands in the late 70's early 80's. In the mid 80's got to work with Boy George at the Anti aparthied rally at Clapham Common.
Moved into production in 86 with a couple of mates and had tunes out on the 4th & Broadway label. One of them 'Scratchmo' (1986) one of the first dance records fusing Jazz and Beats.
In 1987 as a member of PUSH they helped pioneer the Rare groove movement with bands like the Brand New Heavies and Diana Brown and the Brothers. Shows around this time gained the band semi legendary status and gave Crispin his nickname 'The Pump' See www.pushband.com
In 1990 The Pump was recruited with Ernie McKone (Bass) to GALLIANO and toured the world with the band and recorded four albums until the band split in '96' Also during this time with the Push rhythm section recorded 'Spiritual Love' and 'Listen' and other tracks on the URBAN SPECIES album.
The Pumps drum style became in demand as he was known as the man for the Funky breaks. He worked with SEAL and DEFINITION OF SOUND also during this time.
In the late 90's he worked with CARLEEN ANDERSON on her 'True Spirit' and 'Blessed Burden' albums He also recorded 'Indian Vibes' with PAUL WELLER and with his fellow Push mates Ernie and Mark Vanderblast did memorable shows with visiting artists such as RUEBEN WILSON, WELDON IRVINE, LEON WARE, and CHARLES EARLAND.
In 2001-2005 The Pump recorded and did extensive touring with ZERO 7 helping them to secure a massive worldwide following.
In 2003 his mate Mick talbot recruited The Pump for DEXYS MIDNIGHT RUNNERS critically acclaimed comeback tour.
During the last few years with Ernie McKone and Toby Baker he has been composing production music for BMG.
Currently the Pump is a member of MARLENA SHAW and CANDI STATONs touring band and has just finished a tour with the legendary 'FUNK BROTHERS'.'
With Pump Music International he has just worked on a film soundtrack for F.A.M.E prods.
