Ravenfeeder(Sweetwater Aug 1, Battle of the Bands)

About Me

I am sure the name Ravenfeeder brings questions to your head. Not only is it our band name, it is a term that has been used for thousands of years along with the term "Harbingers of Death". "Ravenfeeder" was first used in the time frame of the Romans, as they conquered half of the world and it is still used today by the likes of the United States Marine Corps. Ravens were very plentiful in and around desert terrain, as well as foreign countries where earlier wars took place. As armys would clash, groups of Ravens would follow each army into battle and they began feeding off of the dead soldiers at the end of the collision. Therefore, soldiers began calling themselves Ravenfeeders, for as they killed, these scavengers would eat their dead enemies I have seen this same behavior from these birds in Africa and Iraq. These harbingers would constantly prey on dead terrorists and insurgents in the roads or where ever they fell. Alot of my Marine buddies had the tattoo of Ravens and the word Ravenfeeder tatooed on their bodies after we got back from both countries to signify they were warriors and had shed blood in distant lands. I have the tattoo as well, and it is a sign that I too have shed blood in another man's land. Ravenfeeder started in 2006 with Jim Rooks, Jose Gomez, and Ryan Adami. Ryan and Jose actually met a few years before at Steak and Shake where Ryan worked. The line up was only both of them for a few years. Ryan would write vocals and Jose played the drums to Ryan's singing. They both had a passion and love for heavy metal so much that it stayed the two of them for years "Crawling through Corpses" was the bands original name. The basic idea behind the title was that people do not live anymore but totally waste away in their own lives until there death. After Iraq, Jim Rooks returned home and was looking to start or join a heavy metal band. He actually left his Fiance in hope of finding a band and went out on a limb and put out adds up at a local guitar center. Jose Gomez came across the add and called Jim immediatley. The band started a few days later in Jose's apartment. The room was so small because of Jose's drum set that Ryan had to sit in the closet with his P.A and began to sing that way. After a few weeks of practicing, the band was kicked out of the apartment complex because of the noise and eventually moved the equipment to Jim's mom and dad's basement where they continue to play today.(Thank you Mom and Dad for your patience with our music invading the house!) It was at that time that Jim introduced the name RAVENFEEDER to the band and it quickly became their name. The band quickly began to write complete songs with a few songs from Ryan and Jim's experiences from Iraq and book written in Iraq called "The Verse Of War" which remains a huge impact and relic/holy grail of the band. It took off from there and shows actually started to pile up for them because of the band's complete sound and Ryan's ability to express lyrics and words with actual meaning. They have been playing and loving ever since. Many people have gone through the band like bass players and rythm guitarists and the line up still changes today. Still looking for that guitarist and bass player. A lot of bands like to shit talk each other behind each other's back. That is where RAVENfEEDER comes into the scene. Labeled by many venues around Georgia and metal heads far and wide as the most "UNDERESTIMATED" band in the whole state of Georgia and the most shit talked after a concert. Ravenfeeder often and always has bands and metal heads associated with those bands shit talking for months after a show. This band is so shit talked it is un fucking believable. Again that is where Ravenfeeder comes into the local metal scene. These boys have a certain class about them that is unbelievable. They stay cool and focused constantly. They have a great team work attitude with the Atlanta metal scene bands as well as an awesome showmanship attitude. Locally known as the "Storm Troopers" and they play in your shit storm. Seeking and playing metal venues and hometowns of those bands that talk relentless shit and this often a strategy of the band. They will come into your home town, destroy you at your own game in your own house, pack up and leave, and never return or say a word to anybody almost like a silent assasination made public. Alot of their music is dedicated to our men and women that serve our country and have died making the ultimate sacrifice. The band sometimes brings blood to their shows and often wears it to signify the blood of our men and women that have died in our service. The blood is also used for and signifies the death of a good friend of Jim's, Larry Phillipon. Jim found Larry in a house decapitated by a machine gun bunker in a back room. Many people have called them posers because of this part of the show. I will end this biography with a quote straight from Jim Rooks himself on his view of the people that think them posers for the signified blood of their shows. (Jim Rooks) " You are all cowards and traitors and none of you had the balls or courage to die or pickup a rifle for your country". Oh yeah, leave your leather vests and dean guitars at home. Dimebag is dead and you are definately not Zakk Wylde.

Band Members: Lead Guitar: Jim "War Dog" Rooks Thank you for visiting our page first of all. My name is Jim Rooks and right now I am the only guitarist for Ravenfeeder. I am 27 years old and still rockin'. I started playing guitar as a very young teenager and fell madly in love with it. My parents bought me my first guitar when i was very young. They thought it was some sort of rebelious phase in my life but it has turned into my passion that remains close to my heart. I actually started playing the blues and rock n' roll. I was really into George Thorogood, Eric Clapton, ZZ Top, Chuck Berry, Black Sabbath, all of the Delta Blues player, Janis Joplin, B.B King, Booker T, Muddy Waters just to name a few. So, in all I started learning blues music and rock n' roll. I had no idea what the fuck I was doing but it sounded good and I enjoyed it. When I first heard Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, and Pantera I was blown completely away by the attitude and natural agression of Heavy Metal music and never looked back. As a young child, I had an inner love for poetry and writing songs and lyrics. I started winning many poetry awards as a young kid and it lasts to this day. By time I graduated high school, I had the skill of writing nailed to a fucking T and began winning awards all across America. I actually made it into a book called "Who's Who Among America's Best Students" and I made it in three seperate editions for my writing skills and grades. You don't necessarily have to be a retard to make be in a metal band. When I went into the Marine Corps, I lost several years on my writing but my skill was always there. When I was in Iraq, I brought the skill back full scale from the depths of the past. I began writing again about the shit that happened to me over there and the things I saw. I actually wrote a book over there called " The Verse of War" and made it home with about fourty prewritten songs in my book. I knew I wanted to be in a metal band when I returned home. I introduced the songs I had written to Jose and Ryan and soon the best of our songs and fan favorites came from that book including "Rattlesnake", a song I had written about me solely being pinned down by a Machine gun nest. The rest is history as they say. I believe I am a unique guitar player becuase I have no fucking clue how to play a damn guitar. I don't know theory, chords, scales, chord changes, tempo, no idea how to read music, and I have no idea what notes start where on a guitar. When we record music, I have full on trouble with the producer beacause he thinks I know what the fuck I am doing and I don't so recording is always a pain in the ass for me. I am pretty good on different tunings on the guitar and I still fuck up royally on stringing a guitar. The way I play truly comes from my heart, gut, and soul and that is that. I really feel what I am playing and after a show, I feel more at peace with the war than before. I have nothing else to say about a guitar I play Jackson and ESP guitars. I play my Jacksons mostly because they are unbeatable and are perfect for any kind of metal or music. I play Marshall and Mesa cabs with a Mesa Triple Rectifier and a Peavy 6505. I love the Seymour Duncan Blackout pickups so I use those with a Maxon OD-9 tube screamer and the tone is the best I have ever heard out of a pickup. I love boss pedals and use them mainly in my effects loop. This gear makes for the perfect unbeatable heavy metal sound and I love it. Thank you for stopping by and I hope you have learned a little more about me as a person and as a guitar player.
