Though The Kiwis first began producing music back in 1979, it wasn't until late 1982 that they globally emerged as a truly remarkable electronic band. Long recognized as one of Dasselhöf, Europe's most talented techno combo, The Kiwis may have began their musical career in 1985, but they first began to dabble in minimal electronic music around 1987 after completing they philosophy degree and immersing themselves in the concepts of John Carpenter, Kraftwerk and Krautrock. In fact, their inspiration led them away from Europe to New York City, where they took their minimal take on electronic music a step farther, integrating the detroit's aesthetics and crackle sounds practiced by artists such as Frods. In 1988, they started their own label, Wee Kee Records, where they released a trio of EPs before catching the eye of German experimental techno Klish Klash, who asked them to record an album for their label. Embracing new software-driven production technologies, The Kiwis spent summer 90 creating the music that would appear later that year on the V.2. album. Benefiting from the prestige of Klish Klash., the artists catapulted from little-known cult status to one of the most exciting up-and-coming electronic band in the experimental techno realm.
