Though Widely known as the Actress from the 3 EMMY AWARD WINNING HBO Series "THE CORNER", I have been singing since age 3. It's my first love. Brooklyn, New York Native, Toy Connor, is the new HOT young actress, best known for her portrayal of Tyreeka Freemon in the 3 EMMY AWARD WINNING HBO SERIES, “THE CORNER”, A true to life drama that became the platform of Toy’s groundbreaking performance and the role that introduced Toy Connor to Hollywood as one of the hottest promising young Talents.
Toy has always had a lifelong passion to be on screen, which led her to save every dime she received from her earlier days of doing commercials, to direct her own feature film “THE HARDLUCK CLUB” (see trailer below). Though Toy ran out of money while shooting, she was able to cut a very impressive Trailer which has afforded her numerous opportunities in the entertainment industry. One of which was the 3 EMMY AWARD WINNING HBO SERIES, “THE CORNER”,
Toy, known for her Sexy Bad Girl Image, has been on fire ever since. Toy has held two recurring roles on televisions top shows; ER, and Boston Public. Toy was sought after for two pilots. Toy played “LaKeisha” in the Pilot of “Save The Last Dance”. Toy played “Ailey Turner” in the Pilot of “Kate Brasher”. And held down one of the lead roles as “Sharonda Clifford”, in the Hot Mexican Drug-lord NBC dramatic Series, “KINGPIN”.
Additionally, Toy has Guest Starred on such dramatic series as “STRONG MEDICINE”, “NYPD BLUE” and “CITY OF ANGELS”, to name a few, and has been interviewed on BET’s “LA LIVE”(by John Salley), “Teen Summit”, “Source Sound Lab”, and “Source ALL Access”.
Though Toy has been knee-deep in acting, she has never lost her vision or love for becoming a filmmaker. Simultaneously, she participated in the writing program at UCLA and has written 3 full feature screenplays and 2 shorts. Toy has been an incredible prolific writer since childhood, with emphasis on dark storytelling. Toy is attracted to dark pictures and dramatic thrillers.
Committed to her goal of being a Director, Toy gained the opportunity to Shadow Charles Dutton (Actor/Director) on the HBO Series “The Corner”, as well as participated as Director Trainee and shot behind the scenes footage on Eriq Lasalles’s first self produced and directed feature, “Crazy As Hell”.
To her own merit, Toy Associate Produced the independent feature film, “For the Good Times” (BET STARS, available on Video/DVD) and Co-Produced the docudrama, “Gangstresses” (HBO, available on Video/DVD).
Dedicated to making her Director status a respected reality, Toy applied to the AFI Director’s Workshop for Women the winter of 2003, and became one of the proud 18th Cycle Participants of the AFI Director’s Workshop For Women, where Toy developed, wrote, produced, and directed her newest accomplishment of 2004, “Playing Underground”: A film about a fugitive and his girlfriend who hide out on skid-row waiting to get their new identities, when self preservation leads them on a destructive path with one way out. This story is set in a very fascinating underground world. It’s gritty, cold, edgy, and dark; even in the daytime; All true to Toy’s dark style of storytelling.
