Hi everyone.
I am Armand Mirpour. I have a band, that goes by my name. No great reason or anything, mainly so that I don't feel awkward when I happen to play my songs on gigs where I'm all by myself.
The songs I write are often born from intimate encounters and entertaining moments. You know, the kind of memories that you just can't help but glorify when you retell them to someone? Some are pure fiction, some are a little bit of that and what actually happened. I like names though. A good name writes itself a song, and I sing it.
You see, I have a large number of obnoxiously talented comrades that I just can't help but involve in my creative projects. Camela, that sings with me on my songs Josie and Curly Boys Law is a splendid example. There are so many different folks playing a particular instrument or singing a specific word in a single song, listing them here would be like watching the end credits of some movie. This is a fantastic thing and all, yet it becomes a superhuman task bringing all these people to a live and have them play on a single song. Splitting pay between 30 hungry musicians?
" - How much is it?"
" - Well, everyone gets a piece of PEZ!"
Yeah, delightful scenario.
Hence, live, we have a five-man formation. Obviously as a result the live sound differs from the studio recordings. It's still damn good! But different from the records. And you never know who I'm bringing with me to a live!
It sort of has this collective living vibe. You know. Like people come and go as they wish, just to visit or to stay for a couple of weeks. But the flat everyone is staying at is mine. I never move out.
Oh, and I'm releasing an album. It has a vague storyline. We'll talk about it at a later time. It's called "Boy Will Sing for Directions Home", and will be released in Sweden (and probably will be available to the rest of the world through the internets) during the first half of 2009. All the songs you can hear here will be available on the album, and lots of never before heard tunes. More info when it becomes available!
On a sidenote, for those of you who want some backbone to whatever story I have to tell. I got signed after writing songs for a tv-drama that aired here in Sweden called "Labyrint". I played the role of musician on the show, and played/sang my own songs.
Some really humble hotshots' "discovered" me as I sang on national television with no pants on and I got signed. You can watch a clip from the mentioned show below. Songs called "Lucky Lady Hotshot".
Lot's of swedish talking in it so, foreigners have been warned.
