Marcos Souza

Composer, pianist, journalist, producer and director of the company Atelier Cultural since 1998, Marcos Souza started his career as a musician at the age of 16, when he paid a tribute to his father, Francisco Mário, a great Brazilian musician, at the João Caetano’s Theatre, in Rio de Janeiro. In 2007 begins to coordinate the promotion and marketing department of La Central Digital, the biggest independent content aggregator in Spain, with a Multi-Content (music and audiovisual) and Multi-Format (for the various Business Models) offer, providing online distribution services to production companies, record labels and self-producers, for their catalogues to be commercialized and promoted on the largest and best Digital Stores on the Net. (www.lacentraldigital.com) Also in 2007, he produced two concerts of the famous Brazilians pianists, Wagner Tiso and Gilson Peranzzetta, at the Festival of Jazz de Madrid and was curator of Brazilians movies in the same festival. As a musician, he founded and organized in 1994 the group Conversa de Cordas, which released two CDs. In 1998, he recorded a CD with a Duo of piano and cavaquinho, named Duo2. In 1999, he released the CD Marionetes with the singer Regina Spósito, from Minas Gerais. His fifth CD, Marcos Souza, was released in 2004, and was his first solo work and the soundtrack of the film-documentary Evandro Teixeira, Instantâneos da Realidade. In 2005, he released another soundtrack CD, Chapada Diamantina, about the film Brilhante from the Director Conceição Senna. In 2002, he was Artistic Coordinator for the record company Rob Digital, and later for Lua Discos/MCD, both in Rio de Janeiro. Since 2000, Marcos is working together with the Brazilian Institution Sesc – Rio in projects of instrumental music. More than 200 important names of the Brazilian music have played in his project. In 2005, he started to produce a Festival of World Music in Rio de Janeiro with Sesc –Rio, the Rio Sesc Internacional, with Brazilian musicians, whom played together with international musicians, such as: Abbdullah Chaddeh, from Syria; Ron Carter, from USA, and Hermeto Pascoal, Brazil; Rão Kyao and Pedro Jóia, from Portugal. In 2006, this project continues with Laura Fygi, from the Netherlands; Larry Carlton, USA; Toninho Horta, from Brazil, with Rudi Berger, from Austria; and Jacques Morelembaum, from Brazil, with Ernst Reijsiger from the Netherlands. Together with the companies MP2 Productions and Comtexto, he produced 7 DVDs of Brazilian music: Violeiros, featuring Roberto Correa, Paulo Freire and Badia Medeiros; Maurício Tizumba; Nonato Luiz; Gilson Peranzzetta; Sagrama; DJ Dolores; Suite Brasil. Marcos had also produced the exhibitions 20 Anos de Anistia com Charge (“20 Years of the Amnesty in Cartoons”) and the musical-talk entitled Suite Brasil 500 anos, both in 2000. In 2005, he conceived and produced the film Três Irmãos de Sangue (3 Blood Brothers), directed by Ângela Patrícia Reiniger, from the production NO AR. In 2006 produced the short movie “In the Flute”.
