Kaja (pronounced Kaya) was born and raised in Kristiansand, Norway. Her father was from Norway, her mother is originally from Maryland. Kaja's dad died from long term diabetic complications in 2003. She and her family returned to the USA and moved to Asheville, NC in 2005.
She has always been a singer! Before she was a year old, her mother could sing a note and she could accurately sing it back! She began to actually do recognizable songs at the very young age of 15 months, starting with wordless versions of "Ring Around the Roses" and a Norwegian childrens' song: "Ba ba little lamb".
Unfortunately, Norway wasn't the best place to be talented, both because there was a lack of training available through the schools and the society had a tendency to frown upon people who stood out from the crowd. She eventually got into a local church children's choir run by a British couple, where she began to blossom with her singing.
Before leaving Norway in 2005, she appeared on a local Saturday morning television show(Morgen Kvisten) showcasing local children with Talent. She sang "Maybe" from Annie.
Once in the United States, she was able to take chorus on a daily basis in school as well as voice lessons. She leans toward a mixture of pop and broadway musicals, but has a voice which can tackle music from "Les Miserables and Jazz to Evanescence".
At 15, her voice has been mistaken for an adult singer. She has a mezzo soprano range and is described by her voice teacher as a "Belter".
In addition to singing, Kaja has been actively involved in drama/acting and particularly enjoys doing musicals. She also enjoys drawing, anime, and making beaded jewelry.
Kaja records all her myspace songs to Karaoke tracks using an imac G5 with GarageBand. She sings and arranges all the vocal tracks herself. Just imagine what she could do in a real recording studio!
