About Me
Ke started playing a miniscule little violin on the cute age of 7 but soon became a big strong farmer girl and needed to hold something more substantial, dumped her violin for a big piece of viola. Her instrument is called Herman and is 200 years old. She started out with Roel Steeman at the music school in her little Dutch village Heiloo, where she learned to play chamber music at a very early age, and still continues. She joined the Noordhollands Jeugdorkest (the Youth Orchestra of Noord-Holland) at the age of 12 and since then she played in all kinds of student and semi-prof orchestras in and around Amsterdam (Holland) and Leipzig (Germany). During her geology study in Amsterdam, she earned some extra money by hiring herself to accompaniment orchestras for local operetta- and choral societies (deep in Noordholland, those societies are sooo charming!), and by playing salon music in pubs, bars, at parties etc. She studied with Liesbeth Steffens (viola teacher at the conservatory of The Hague), Julie Barnes, Silvia Winter and last but not least Professor Dietmar Hallmann (viola teacher at the Conservatory of Leipzig and Gewandhaus veteran). Somewhere in the year 2006, Ke started noodling with guitar and bass, and started recording experimental works in the little home studio, adding to little projects among friends. The acoustic viola got upgraded with a pick-up and effect pedals (wah, delay, reverb, overdrive, chorus, flanger) and in October of the year 2007 the first steps on the rock podium were set with the big Halloween 15th Anniversary of her friends Sheik Yerbouti, a top of the notch German Zappa Tribute Band. Half a year later Ke joined The FoolZ in Apeldoorn, Holland, another great Zappa tribute band. In summer 2008 she made her debute at the Zappanale, joining the opening band the American 'Anti-Agressive Action Band' headed by Stephen Chillemi. Furthermore she took part in the American band DOOT's contributions to Andrew Greenaway's compilation cds of The Idiotbastardson and Burnt Weeny Sandwich. More cooperation with the DOOTs lies ahead, with more recordings and a 'massive jamsession' at Zappanale #20. Since November 2008, Ke is the proud owner of a simple electric violin, which sounds amazingly cool with the roaring wicked pedal set. And even better, Ke got so much into playing violin again that - after 20 years- she returned to the acoustic violin again. First opportunity to try this baby out was with the band Red and Blues on Meerjazz 2009 in Hoofddorp, from which there is a little clip included in this profile. Ke will continu playing with Red and Blues.
