TooZ Up have been a firm favourite on the Liverpool live scene for the last decade thanks to the passion of Mark Harley and an array of partners. If you’re more of a toetapper than a dance-floorhogger, stay at home because TooZ Up are not your cup of tea. Having wandered past at least four other desolate pubs on Sunday night we were expecting inside The Liverpool Bar to look much the same – one man and his dog with gaping spaces where people used to sit and the occasion tumble weed rolling by.
How very wrong we were!At best we estimated a mixture of ladies and gents winding down from the chaos of the weekend, preparing quietly for the inevitable Monday morning blues, but there was no chance of this crowd rushing home to be tucked up before midnight. The bar was amass of bodies competing with the TooZ Up duo to out-sing the chorus lines, all caught up in the infectious charm that force the rockers to pack out the largest of venues. This is an act that have an awesome command of the stage with their pitch perfect renditions of Fleetwood Mac and Queen coupled with intricate guitar solos. If it’s a conversation you’re after then there are plenty of empty seats left in the surrounding bars because TooZ Up are proud to be loud. It’s an all too familiar scene, going to watch a live act as background music while conversation continues around them. TooZ Up are not that band as each pair of eyes were intently fixed on the twosome only briefly wandering to make a dash to the bar or hit the jampacked dance-floor.With Grammy Award winner Steve Lukather rated as a major influence alongside the likes of Johnny Cash and U2, they are a band to see if you’re a fully fledged guitar-nut. They appeal across the musical spectrum thanks to the mix of familiar classics that beef out their set and a genuine, tangible enthusiasm for what they love. The best summary of the duo is a feel-good, crowdpleasing force to reckon with, who look set to rock the socks off anyone in a twenty mile radius. Their individual experiences on the live music circuit has armed them with a double dose of confidence and the aptitude to entertain.Definitely one to watch.
