MUSICAL HISTORY OF HARVEY LOTT
Harvey Lott was not the product of musical parents nor has he ever undertaken formal percussive training; however, at the age of ten he was introduced to the art that is drumming by an uncle. Immediately entranced by the sounds produced from a mammoth Bonhamesqe thirteen-piece blue Ludwig Vistalite drum set, young Lott retreated for the summer to his uncle's home in south Mississippi. His mind was feverishly infected with the instruments and he somehow persuaded his family to let him rehearse in the house. By the age of twelve, Lott's first group had formed just as junior high was within reach. He soon joined the marching band and began to study sight reading, basic rudiments, hand techniques and achieved position of percussion captain at age thirteen. Competing at every available band clinic and meet in the county, district, class, and state, plus performing at countless sporting events paved the way for thousands of live performances that have followed. Throughout high school, Lott performed with marching and symphonic bands, string groups, jazz ensembles, rock, country-western, blues, gospel, contemporary Christian, rap, soul, funk, alternative, and death metal bands--original and cover. By eighteen Lott's group Small Room 9 experienced a mark of success by signing with Digiscope Records, LLC , an indie label based out of Jackson, MS whom at the time owned the Grammy winning Terminal Studios (“O Brother Where Art Thouâ€). Intensive studio time and the direction of producer David Maurice , who continues to work countless major artist, shortly brought about the first round of contracts and a major endorsement from Budweiser which provided exposure, equipment and promotional assistance. Digiscope flirted with a handful of major labels and worked with BMI's Fred Cannon for subsidiary deals over the course of eighteen months, in the mean time (2002-03) SR9 had completed two international and domestic tours and received much acclaim from critics and released an independent hit. SR9 had the privilege of performing with major artists such as Chingy , Distubring Tha Peace , 12 Stones , Afroman , King Konga , and Grammy winners Shenandoah and Ludacris . Lott continued to record with other local artists (2003-06) including three records with Laurel, MS artist Chad Knight (whom Lott played drums for full time from 2004-09). After signing with the indie label Chaos Records out of Waterbury, CT, Waiting for Brantley approached Lott with a full time position and pursued a headlining tour with four supporting acts and picked up an endorsement from Full Armor Clothing . Approaching the studio with a new drummer and sound WFB released the late 2005 EP “A Million Reasons to Try Againâ€. One week before the devastating hurricane Katrina, WFB opened for recording artist Hinder (at the time widely unknown) at the final concert at Point Cadet Plaza in Biloxi, MS. Lott again joined forces with Brantley in 2008-2009 for tour support when Brantley had the privilage of opening for national acts such as Theory of A Deadman , Framing Hanley , Nonpoint and Pop Evil . In early 2008 Lott began performing with and also managing Crow No More , Covington County's alt country/blues/southern rock phenom. Crow No more is currently recording a full length studio record set for release in late 2010. CNM released two live albums in 2009, both available for free online. During late 2009 Lott teamed up with Eric Blackwell and Dustin Chambliss and formed Hattiesburg's Chapter 13 rockabilly trio and have started preproduction on a self-titled EP.
