I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

I live simply, enjoy grocery shopping, friendly conversations, reading, writing, watching tv, time on the computer, Scrabble games with family. I love good humor, live music, browsing junk shops, taking snapshots -- and most family get-togethers; appreciate beauty, nature, creativity of others. Am almost vegan, LOVE to travel, esp. to California. A bit hung up on publishing -- to my mind an unshared poem is only half written -- an unshared thought, some sort of loss. In my youth, I enjoyed art in the kitchen booth with my sisters; after dinner, our reading sci-fi aloud with Daddy while mother cleaned nearby, humming softly. A big movie fan, I collected movie star photos. Also collected pretty stones. Wrote poetry and songs; seriously aspired to become an actress. Joined Drama Club in school, became active at the Little Theatre. Cashiered at the St. Johns Theatre. Was trained and taught ballroom dancing at Arthur Murrays. Continued education in art and dance. Became Chapter & State secretary for the Florida Motion Picture & Television Association, then, vice president. Worked in office support and production assistance for ITV at Channel 7 thru the 1980's. Wrote a column in FLORIDA STAGE & SCREEN NEWS and other small publications. Grew to care less about acting, more about writing. Many freelance articles published over the years. Art & poetry received enough awards to raise my hopes, but I remained a "struggling artist." (Type-cast, I fear, as a has-been / wanna be).Employed more than 40 years (mostly in offices), I retired in 2002 as an insurance program administrator. For me, there is no such thing as growing old gracefully. Money never "followed my bliss" when I did. "TrueLove" also avoided me -- somehow I survived all this; it hasn't been easy.THE SHADOW OF RAINBOWS: 100 LifePoems is my single published collection. Some work appears in anthologies, many thanks to Two Friends and other small publishers. Am currently working on a chapbook. (See samples of poems in blog between American Idol chatter.) I hope you enjoy what's shared there and below.P.S. Headshot is by iisurfphotography's "vr"... INCIDENTALLY -- I'm a cat lover from way back -- Garfield and I share this motto: "Life is hard and then you nap." We nap a lot. :-)
