Maybe LogicPhillip K. Dick's dream realized:
Influences:
Sounds Like: In 1997 a strange program aired on Columbia, Missouri's local college radio station KCOU 88.1 fm; a weekly three hour mix of experimental music, radio theatre and spoken word, long passages of soundscape audio collage, and talk-radio segments discussing conspiracy theory and para-poltics. One central conceptual thread running through the audio barrage (and a long-running fascination of mine) is the fizzing crackle of radio transmissions: the idea of picking up a signal from a secret research bunker or Phillip K. Dick's psychic satellite VALIS; in this allegory this is the new Dark Age, and people of conscience, intelligence, and creativity have been driven underground, a new secret society, and are communicating through these esoteric channels. Aesthetically, anything that was anti-corporate, anti-cultural mind control, anti-medioCretin was thrown into the mix; from Bill Hicks and Jello Biafra spoken word to the post-modern media collage' of Negativland and the surrealist satire of The Firesign Theatre and the Church of the Subgenius. What we hoped shone through our discussion of the more fringe areas of human belief at the end of the century was an intellectually curious, but above all reasoned objectivity to it all, and a fully functioning sense of humor to boot! Are you bemused/terrified by the "End" Times? Please check back periodically as the archives are "re-mastered"; during this ongoing process highlights will be featured here. Who knows, chatter through the wire indicates the possibility of a reanimation of this behemoth's bloated corpse... (under the sea the mighty Bunker slumbers, dreaming...)
