I have been singing as long as I can remember. I started out taking piano lessons when I was 3, in Boston at the Academy of Musical Arts. I was into the whole nine. Recitals, Newspapers, you name it, I was interested. I eventually decided I did not want to play piano anymore because the teacher kept beating my fingers with a ruler.
However, the best part of my piano lessons was ear training. That's where I figured out I wanted to sing. The older I got you could spot me anywhere with a cheap walkman listening to Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey and Luther (gotta have your Luther).
Honestly, I don't think I wouldv'e known reggae existed if it weren't for 88.1. Dad wasn't really keen on me listening to reggae in his house. I was forced to listen to "Oldies 103" until i figured out how to change the dial. I remember listening to "Joshua B" and "Phenom" and "Your Niceness Marliene" and so many others from 5-8pm every week day. I also began hanging out in Jr. Rodigans record shop like I had no home. It was where I was able to get knowledge about the music business and land my first job doing specials for hip-hop deejay DJ WADE.
After that opportunity, I was ready to take on other projects, with confidence. I was in Talent Shows, Stage Shows and studios all over. Some artists I've worked with are, Lavonya Bailey, Singing Sweet, Alpheus, Sonbeam, Prento Kidd aka Izachaar, Screechy Dan, and Specialist just to name a few. I've opened shows for Lady Saw, Wayne Wonder & Mr. Easy, Mr. Vegas, Frisco Kid, Merciless, and shared the same stage with Determine. Producers include Bertie of Stereophonic, Boston, Juneya Kool of Omniworld/Evalast, Tony Gee(who gave me my first album, thankx), Redd of KingzBread(very talented producer, thanx as well), Sammy of Notice Music, Courtney of Kingston Recording Studio/Brooklyn, my breddren Steve, and lastly Carl"Dillie" Perry and Tony Phillips, Ruff Kutt band. I am forgetting my foundation Band "Motion" with Ige, Batch(very talented breddren as well).
In my life I've had the pleasure of meeting some really great artistes in the industry, producers and personalities as well. In 1999, I was given the opportunity by Prince Hammer(a family friend) to record in London @ Stingray Records studio and was able to meet people like Sylvia Tella and Eryc Donaldson. I've also met Lukie D, Pam Hall, and Singing Melody. I have been very blessed so far and I intend to keep at it.
Please don't be afraid to leave your comments whether good or bad. I am not bothered by constructive criticism. I welcome it. I'm not one of those crazy American idol contestants. I really do love music and will do anything to get one step closer to my dream of becoming the female answer to Beres. Tell me if I come close.I want to take time to big up all the people I've had the chance to see on stage who went before me in my hometown and opened the way for me to be involved in the music.
