Hi, we're BeckyFalls. We are a group of friends who like to play good, honest music. We aren't about showing off. We're not about conforming to a certain genre or image. We don't care to be pigeonholed. We don't have any fancy gimmicks, we don't (usually) involve ourselves in any crazy rock n roll antics, unless you consider that we've gone through about 4 bass players in 3 1/2 years. Very Spinal Tap of us (except, fortunately, none of them died!) Despite this, we're all fairly normal and down to earth. VERY BBC Radio 2 (but of course, Radio 2 is the new Radio 1!) We just like to make music that we enjoy and that sounds pleasing to our ears (and usually enjoy necking a pint or two in the process.)
As luck would have it our music pleases other peoples' ears, too! We won the Zephyr Bar Battle of the Bands in 2006 under the band name the Naturals. We then changed our line up and decided to call ourselves BeckyFalls. Later that year we came in 2nd place at the Rock Solid Battle of the Bands hosted by South Hams Radio Station (while our bass player was on holiday!) In 2007 we were chosen to play at Fordstock, our first festival!
After Fordstock we took a year off to expand families, travel and hone our skills and now we're back again with some fantastic new songs and a renewed zest for playing together again. We're currently in the process of finishing our debut album with local producer, musician and friend Barney Dine (Dr Frank and the Thin Line Groovers, Daddy Mango) and hope to have it ready for sale in the next 6 months or so.
Our first gig back on the Devon music scene will be supporting Mad Dog McRea, the popular Plymouth based folk rock band on 18th April at the Hippo (formerly the Hub) in Plymouth. This will be a very rowdy night indeed, you won't want to miss it. And, should you decide not to miss it, make sure you come and say hi and have a pint with us.
Cheers!
BeckyFalls"In my humble opinion, BeckyFalls is one of the most original and exciting bands I have had pleasure to listen-to in the 23 years since I began compiling the LoweDown Column. If there's any justice in this world BeckyFalls will be music-paper front page news within the year. Let's face it, someone needs to save us from these awful gospelesque sound-alikes and the Radiohead wannabees ... and soon!! "
