WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ore. - A brother and sister were killed Tuesday night when the car they were in hit a utility pole in unincorporated Washington County.Jose Mejia, 18, and Mayra Mejia, 17, were both pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, authorities said.According to the Washington County Sheriff's Office, an off-duty Cornelius police officer came across the scene about 10:30 p.m., called 911 and tried to give the pair aid until emergency crews arrived. Both were trapped in the crunched vehicle.Investigators believe Jose Mejia was driving a 1992 Honda Accord south on Southwest Susbauer Road at a high rate of speed when he lost control while driving over raised railroad tracks. The road was wet and he was unable to regain control of the Honda before it struck the pole near the intersection with Northwest Wren Road, police said. The family of the siblings told police the pair had left the family business in North Plains and were headed home to Cornelius when the crash occurred.I hope they rest in peace, and they'll be in our hearts.
