Something new...

About Me

I have something new, something beautiful, and something unique to share with the world. Music is more than a hobby, more than a profession - more than a means to an end. Music is the beginning, middle and the end. "No matter what life has presented me, music has always taken me somewhere no one else could touch me. The music I heard in my head, in my soul, was like nothing anyone had ever experienced before. I started writing just for myself; to create the music I knew I should make - the music that should be out there." As Caitlin wrote and created, she found herself not only being influenced by the music she listened to throughout her life, but as she grew, the unique music that she heard developing within her. "I couldn't help but create chord harmonies and ethereal progressions that gave me chills. I write to break down barriers that I feel put constraints on modern music. I'm inspired by the need to change the norm of mainstream music. Most importantly, I want to present a pure voice to the listener - a voice to break through all the over-produced, studio-crafted vocals." With a timeless and captivating voice, sound and presence, she is driven by the desire to make a statement: “You can be sensual without being lewd. You can have a classic sound and style, but fascinate with your own unique vision. Musicianship and commercial success are not mutually exclusive. Simply sing with a pure voice and exude your love of music to the listener, and they will be just as passionate about what you offer as you are about the craft.” The consistent excitement over Caitlin’s voice, wherever she sings, is testament to this.
Caitlin began to dedicate herself to music at the age of 10. Her clarinet teacher, a first chair cellist in the Philadelphia orchestra, informed her parents that, not only did she have an incredible ear for someone of her age, she exhibited signs of having absolute or perfect pitch. From that point on, Caitlin began singing in productions and choirs. Her love of theater led her to be cast in leading roles for numerous productions such as Maria in "The Sound of Music" and Ariel Moore in "Footloose". With her talent and passion for classical music and choir performance, she was chosen to be a member of multiple, very selective choirs, as well as the celebrated New Jersey All State Chorus. Caitlin studied under Dr. Cindy Jay as a classical soprano in technical voice and opera at Princeton's Westminster Conservatory for 5 years. She was invited for three consecutive years to perform classical vocal selections for members of the tri-state artistic community in the annual Young Artists Concert. She has been honored to perform in several benefits accompanied by members of the Philadelphia Orchestra. While majoring in Biology at Rutgers University, she was a member of the renowned Kirkpatrick Choir and a vocal student under some of the University's finest coaches. Although her heart truly lies in the vocally based yet musically diverse adult contemporary genre, Caitlin has performed all types of music. From covers, to songs for other up and coming writers; from unique live shows to experimental music just for fun - she’s done it all. "The variety of performance experience I have, coupled with formal technical training, has made me strong and savvy." Having this proficiency has given Caitlin the perspective one needs to enter the industry and truly make an impact. "Through all the hard work and self-analysis, I've found that you should create the music that flows naturally from you in your own style. Only then can you really be true to yourself, thereby conveying the truth to your listeners."
Over the span of her years making music, the most difficult questions for Caitlin are What kind of music do you make? and Who do you sound like? "I hesitate to limit myself artistically – I take inspiration from every aspect and genre of music. My parents went to great lengths to diversify my tastes in music at an early age." She has memories of her mother singing "That Girl" by Stevie Wonder and "Nick of Time" by Bonnie Raitt. Her father sang along to Peter Frampton and Sade. From rock, to jazz, to the warn down tape of the Original Broadway Cast recording of The Phantom of the Opera, Caitlin's musically diverse adolescence was the beginning of a life with music at it's epicenter. "Discovering my passion for rhythm and dance, I took a huge liking to hip hop and electronica. From alternative to ambient, Jpop to the score of an epic movie - as long as the music was unique and well-crafted it made no difference what genre it was from. Truly appreciating all styles comes from the ability to listen with an un-biased ear. In my mind, music is not race, sex, or age oriented - everyone should experience all aspects of great music not only for what differentiates styles from one another, but for what universalizes them."
Caitlin writes her own music and her own lyrics. She's written hundreds of songs, recorded many of them, and is realizing more and more every day that music is "what I've been put on this earth to do." She recently performed to a sold out crowd at the nationally renowned World Café Live in Philadelphia, and is eagerly anticipated to return for another show featuring her own songs as well as favorite covers. Music is inspired by not only the little things we're secretly moved by, but by the most over-powering, grandiose, beautiful feelings that we want to convey to others. "For me, music is both a blissful, other-worldly escape into someplace indefinable, and a connection to the aspects of life most difficult to contemplate - yourself and your connection to the world existing around you."
