That’s music from Salzburg that could also have been done in Tokyo, New York or London. Electronic Pop music that sounds international on the one hand and well known on the other!
Nina, Dorian, Paul and Pauls own recording studio that’s the considerable collective Roia.
Their dreamy and mostly spheric “maze of sonority†is describable as urban electronic pop music. Roia pick up different styles, influences and streams of music and mix that all together. The result makes you feel weightless and melancholy at the same time.
Mysterious music made in Austria – much more than electronic Pop – sensitive and frail like a butterfly, deep and interweaved like a dream catcher.
The dream, and the Persian word for dream is “Roiaâ€, began in the year of 2000 when the band first started to experiment with musical ideas. From this time they work consequent, restless and democratically on their Songs.
The music sounds young and ambitious. It seems that the protagonists don’t try to copy other styles and streams of music, contrary they create their own roiatypical sound.
Roia take their time to develop and arrange the musical ideas carefully.
Probably it’s that kind of tender recklessness that convinced FM4 (Austrian indie radio station) to play the single “Suicide Butterfly†in 2004.
“Suicide butterfly is one of the most beautiful pop-songs of the year.†(Markus Deisenberger, Sound & Media)
On September 8th 2006 the dreams of Roia became an album and the band an act of the indie-label monkey music of Walter Gröbchen.
The pink debut “Cute Little Fear†is published in Germany, Switzerland and Austria.
“Cute Little Fear is a pearl, a labyrinth of emotions and passion, sadness and melancholy (…) a perfect pop album. Quiet, adorable, just great!†(SONIC SEDUCER, 2006)
In fall 2006 Roia started their „Cute Little Tour“ through Austria, Germany and Hungary.
Against the general habits of electro pop music Nina, Dorian and Paul wanted to perform their songs on stage by using acoustic instruments instead of setting up a DJ live performance. And that’s exactly what they did. Drums, bass, guitar, keyboards, violin and the two voices supported by a great light show and fascinating visuals.
