When I was in my 20s, I used to play the coffeehouse circuit in Greenwich Village and beyond - the Other End, Top of the Gate, Mills Tavern, the Night Owl, etc.
Then came family - three children - and jobs. So the songwriting and the coffeehouse singing stopped for a while.
In 1997, the Starving Artist was born on City Island, New York. At that time, it was a gallery - a showcase for my handmade jewelry creations and the fine art / fine craft of artisans, many local to City Island and most my friends.
In 2004, the Starving Artist evolved, adding music to the “menu†and becoming a coffeehouse. Life had come full circle. Songs were written - no doubt inspired by the many great music-artists who have taken the stage at Starving Artist, such as (see below) Lou Volpe, Theresa Sareo and Lawrence "Lipbone" Redding, to name a few. Finally, I took the stage once again, first in October 2006 and again in May 2007.
I played my first gig outside the Starving Artist on Thursday, September 6, at 169 Bar in New York City (169 East Broadway), and returned there in late October as well.
I hope you enjoy these songs from my first album in 40 years - in fact, in my life. Thanks to my family - three children (Joshua, Jennifer, Arielle), now plus one (Hannah), my wife Monica, brother-in-law “Uncle Bill†Yehle, and loving friend “Aunt Ma†Marion Rosenfeld - and to all who offer me their love, support and inspiration. Gratefully in my life, that latter list is extensive and growing.
