About Me

..Tim Ouw started to play music at a very young age. When he was two years old, he started hitting on anything what sounded nice. At age three his parents gave him his first drum kit. The head of the snare drum was torn on the same day. At age 5, very influenced by the Shadows, charmed by their instrumental tunes, he started to play along with records. He became familiar with the art of the solo, because of the drummer of that band, Brian Bennet. Later on, the Beatles and Stones followed as influences. Between eight and ten years of age he learned about Dave Weckl, Billy Copham, and the bands they played in. This is because of his father, who introduced Tim to this music. From that moment on he became a lover of jazz music. He played in several bands as a drummer in his time growing up. He became known with the theory of jazz music, and music theory in general. The Electric Band of Chick Corea, Vital Information, Tribal Tech, but mostly Dave Weckl were a great influence. Billy Childs was a GREAT influence. He began composing music at the age of sixteen and wrote more than twenty tunes. In this time, he also followed a course for film direction-light-camera, and became interested in shooting his own fiction films. He was shocked by the Star Wars music, and started composing music by the means of applications like Cubase and so fort. He composed several orchestral tunes. At some point, writing music became an obsession, and playing the drums was not satisfying enough. He wanted tones. At this point, he still applied for the Conservatory of Amsterdam to follow the drum course. He was admitted, but it did not work out. He quitted the study, and stopped playing music full time. Worked on the side. In desperation, he admitted again for the drum course, but this time he was placed on a waiting list, which he did not pass. His father is a guitar player, and he always had a Bass in the living room. Although Tim flirted with the bass guitar for a very short time at age sixteen, he only picked the bass really up at age twenty two. A GREAT influence was Jaco Pastorius. He changed his live completely. He started to play eight hours a day, and one year later he was admitted at the same school, the Conservatory of Amsterdam, to start in the first year of the course at the jazz department. Igor Strawinsky changed his life even more. Sometimes he listened more than four times in a row to Le Sacre du Printemps. He has periods of intensive writing, and he has considered applying for the course Composition. He plays in several bands, performing in his capitol city, and other citys in the Netherlands, as a Bassguitarist. He is in his end exam year, and will graduate in the summer of 2009!
