Born in Germany, living in Spain, and quite aware of his French roots, Dirk Sandoz has been interested in music ever since he was five: braking the plastic tab that protected the cassette tape his Grandma brought him as a gift, Sandoz dubbed the „The Adventures of Pinocchio“ with music, and disassembled an electric keyboard he’s got for X-mas -only twenty minutes old -only to find out where the sound comes from. Only in the era of break-dance, music became a serious business for him and brought him into contact with electronic music.
At the age of twelve, the C64 / Amiga became the heart of music. Using Tracker software, Sandoz composed his first grooves & mellos.
At the age of eighteen, after some years of intermission, he devoted himself entirely to music. In the house he shared with some roommates, Sandoz built a music room to spin his vinyl records. In 1993 -the beginning of the techno era- the Dorian Gray and the Omen in Frankfurt became his domicile, ensuing in his first own music studio he built in 1996. Getting in contact with well-known producers, Sandoz put into practice a number of studios throughout Germany. In 1998, he accomplished his first live performance in front of a hundred people.
His interest in technology, and his friendship to the renown synthie-development companies WALDORF and ACCESS lead finally to the „Techno Technik Tour,“ organized by Proxenos Inc. for huge discos throughout Germany, that he accompanied as product specialist. He also represented NUMARK, an American manufacturer of DJ accessories and audio equipment, at the music exhibition in Frankfurt, Germany, and has been involved in a number of co-productions on Rock, Pop, R&B and EBM that he accompanied as a specialist for sound design and mastering.
In 2005, he went on a trip around the world and played a no credit - gig at the Avalon in L.A., at a warm-up lounge on Ibiza, and at several moon parties in Thailand, with the fresh importet ibiza sound
In 2006, he launched an event he coined “Goldschweiss - dancing like a machine,” and finally decided to found his own booking agency by name of Dansante, the French present participle for dancing. Upon his return from his trip around the world, it had already occurred to him that he did not want to stay in Germany any longer.
In 2007, he finally turned his back on Germany and settled on the Baleares, where he hopped between Mallorca and Ibiza to irradiate acoustically the clubs of the two islands. For friends of a somewhat harder techno, Sandoz performs under his pseudonym “Marionettenspieler”(Puppetmaster)
Since December 2007, Sandoz distributes his own club shirt for DJs, live performer, and party people. The so-called “BeaT-shirt” has an electroluminescent panel, which in response to music emits light in form of various histograms. For more information, klick the clubwear button.
Fascinated by the people, by its history, and not the least by many visits, Vienna has become something like a second home, where the Cafe Leopold in the museum district serves as his office and think tank.
In 2008, Sandoz will concentrate both on productions with a variety of artists, and on his own label. Since he travels quite a lot, and since his head works like a cauldron of boiling and sputtering ideas, we should be curious to see, what new ideas he will come up with in the near future.
