My Interests

Physical Therapy!!; Movies; reading; social drinking; occasional live music (as long as it has singing and is not Swedish); travelling; joking; exercising; hiking, canoeing, swimming; people watching; talking to interesting people; animals; talking to animals, just walking around outside on nice days; growing a moustache; spending time with family; spending time with friends; spending time relaxing on my own; sleeping; trying new foods; eating good foods; trying different beers; drinking good beers; playing basketball, tennis, frisbee, hackey sack, pool/billiards; watching basketball, football, tennis; jumping rope

I'd like to meet:

People unlike hipsters, who aren't taking themselves too seriously or trying too hard to be cool; people unlike hipsters, who like to do active, outdoorsy things (sports, hiking, etc.); people who like to do inactive, indoorsy things (movies, sharing drinks, etc.) but can do them with humor and intelligence, like hipsters; people with interesting opinions.

Music:

The Beatles (of course), Led Zeppelin, The Band, The Who, Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam, Neil Young, The Beach Boys, Beastie Boys (before they got all middle-aged), Fleetwood Mac, Ice Cube (when he made music and not cheesy movies), Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, George Michael, Johnny Cash, The Rolling Stones, The Clash, Billy Idol, James Taylor, Beck, The Shins, Steely Dan, Iron & Wine, Sufjan Stevens, Foo Fighters, Wilco, Fiona Apple, Death Cab, Arcade Fire

Movies:

"Once" was really great! "Grizzly Man" was an interesting look at a troubled and enigmatic individual. "Shaun of the Dead" was hilarious and so well done. Recently, I enjoyed both "Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire" and "Walk the Line". "Munich" was good also but I felt the ending was not concise enough. "Murderball" was really good. I would recommend it as a more uplifting counterpoint to "Million Dollar Baby" because it demonstrates how life can go on, with quality, even after paralysis. Others: Apocalypse Now, Easy Rider, Boogie Nights, Deliverance, Goodfellas, LOTR Trilogy, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind , American Splendor, The Last Waltz (pretty much anything by Scorsese from mid 70's to mid 90's), Trainspotting, "The Talented Mr. Ripley" is a personal favorite. I think it's been underappreciated greatly; American Beauty, Dazed and Confused, Best In Show, A Mighty Wind, Lawrence of Arabia, Whale Rider, Lost in Translation, Master and Commander, Good Will Hunting (It's always better than I remember it to be and less cliched), The Nightmare Before Christmas, Zoolander, Fight Club, 28 Days Later, A River Runs Through It, Hoop Dreams, Affliction, Do The Right Thing, 25th Hour, O Brother Where Art Thou?, Natural Born Killers, The Limey,

Television:

Rick Steves' Europe, Planet Earth, Man vs. Wild, The Office (U.S. & U.K.), ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT, "Rome" (gotta support leading men with red hair); I actually got into "Six Feet Under" recently during it's final season; "Deadwood" (gotta love all the facial hair); "The Wire"; "Seinfeld" reruns, "Carnivale" (lukewarm); The Sopranos (likewise); "The Simpsons" (mostly reruns); "Entourage"; "Law & Order" (with my mom only); "Scrubs" (occassionally); I still usually give "Saturday Night Live" a chance if I'm home. I really don't watch TV shows much though - especially during summer.

Books:

Currently, I'm attempting for the third time to read Crime and Punishment. I think it's going to be successful this time and train me for participation in Marc's Nabokov Reading Discussion Group. The Classics: (Moby Dick, The Brothers Karamazov, The Illiad, Odyssey, etc.); Seabiscuit, Siddhartha, The Grapes of Wrath, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, The Da Vinci Code. To be honest, I'll probably read almost anything anyone wants to give me with a good recommendation. I have a bookcase from which books may be loaned out as well (with the proper "sign out" procedure, of course). Let me try and recall more of what I've read and enjoyed over the years as well to add. In the last year or so I've enjoyed "Life of Pi", "Bringing Down the House", "Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs", "A Short History of Nearly Everything", "Into the Wild". "All the Pretty Horses" was the best fiction I had read in a while.

Heroes:

Let me preface this one a bit. I don't really think of people's whole lives as being heroic and worthy of worship but more that specific deeds and actions are heroic and admirable. The idea of a real "hero" is mostly mythical I believe - which doesn't neccessarily diminish it's beauty or importance. That being said, some people I admire are Burt Reynolds (circa 1973), Larry Bird,Sigmund Freud, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Friedrich Nietzsche, John Lennon, and Jesus.

My Ribs, My Ribs, My Aching, Aching Ribs

Has anyone ever had a rib injury before? I hurt mine 16 days ago and they have shown minimal, if any, improvement since.  I'm starting to get worried when I'm not not sad or angry about it. ...
