Imagine the collision of neo soul, an alternative vibe and a sprinkle of black gospel and you’ve just experienced Nordene Simon. The paradox of all that is beautiful and hurtful is mirrored in her blend of introspective yet demanding lyrics. Never empty, they continually reveal insight into the realization that it is by grace alone that we stand, enabling us to work towards our promised destiny Nordene’s originality is evident through dynamic and engaging performances. The music pours out through soulful vocals and strong guitar, and piano arrangements. Audiences are drawn in by her ability to craft unique stories, art and poetry into an intimate, spiritual self-portrait whereby they glimpse their own likeness. You can catch a glimpse of her powerful soulful inspiring tone on the Toronto Mass Choir’s Album entitled “Instrument of Praiseâ€, where she contributed to its Juno Award victory with the songs “Thank You†and “Higher Groundâ€.
Music was always a part of Nordene’s life. She can still recall the thrill of a cappella singing at Holy Rosary with her elementary school choir services and later, as a teenager, discovering a freer musical _expression with the young people in her school, the Powerhouse choir and the Juno Award recipient the Toronto Mass Choir.
In fact, one of Nordene's first performances was at a chapel service for her fellow students. The event was pivotal for Nordene -- it unveiled not only a musical talent, but a true gift of connecting with her peers. From that day on, Nordene Simon was marked as an artist, a role model, a kindred spirit and a seeker.
A true songbird, Nordene songs are about the importance of friends, the love of family and God’s eternal goodness
Her friends and family will tell you she is "relentlessly optimistic".
Paving a diverse road of appearances, Nordene is more concerned with the rich experience of the journey than the travel-ability of the highway. Church’s coffee houses have warmed to the soulful brew of her music, yet town parks and city malls have also provided a stage. Her genuine love of people and sharing Christ is the motivation of her sojourns. Attendees of her performances come from all walks of life and are often struck by her honesty and candidness. The testament is clear, and is a reflection of her own journey, pointing towards the One who has carried her through. The city of Toronto awaits with great anticipation the release of her first album entitled “THE CHALLENGE†stay tuned for more upcoming news and concerts.
