Marcus Schinkel

About Me

With a degree in piano performance, Marcus Schinkel, keyboarder, composer, and band leader captivates audiences through his heartfelt, intoxicating playing, lyrical original compositions, and the talent to present music in a different context.

His distinctive piano sound stems from such different styles as jazz, classicjazz, classic meets jazz, soul, Nujazz, fusion, classical, pop, and theatre music. His performances have taken him to Russia, the USA, the Caribbean, Europe, and Jordan.
He has also been invited to play his new program, "News From Beethoven," at the German Embassy in Viet Nam.
In addition to concerts for the SR, NDR-Jazzzeit, WRD, and Deutschlandfunk, his TV feature on arte-Kultur was very well-received.

The program "News From Beethoven", which celebrated its premier in the plenary assembly hall of the old "Deutsche Bundestag" in 1999 , has continued to develop during it's many performances throughout Europe and Asia as well as Latin America, to find its now perferct form.

Beethovens extrodinary talent as an improvisor was the seed of conception for "News From Beethoven." The pianist and composer Marcus Schinkel took well known compositions by Beethoven as a starting point for explorations into jazz music as well as classical music. The songs are sometimes romantic, other times explosive, but always delicate and precise.

The Marcus Schinkel Trio interprets Beethovens "hits", such as "Moonlight Seranade" and "Patetique", as well as his lesser know compositions such as "Sehnsucht" as well as rare vocal compositions. On "News From Beethoven" the Marcus Schinkel Trio pays their dues, and Beethoven gets a modern coat of paint.

Marcus Schinkel Trio, consisting of Marcus Schinkel on piano, Bas Rietmeyer on Bass and Wim de Vries on drums, studied jazz together at the Arheim Conservatory in Holland. Marcus Schinkel has played with Charlie Mariano as well as for Sir Peter Ustinov and the Unesco. He has also worked on a classical crossover project for the Gürzenich- Orchestra Cologne.

Wim de Vries is a sought after drummer in the International jazz community playing as a "Drumbassadors", a drum duo with equally reknowned drummer Rene Creemers, as well as playing concerts throughout the world. He recently played at the Modern Drum Festival in New York.
Bas Rietmeyer is one the top bass players in Holland for jazz and classical music, playing with jazz stars such as Eric Vloeimans and Rob Van Bavel but also classical music for the queen of nederlands
