BFWSP (Black Faith with Sonic Pace) consists of office workers and grad school students, using music to keep their diaries — of a life that is not so beautiful and flamboyant, one that is to seek beam in the dark night, one that is to seek hope in sorrows, and a one that is to seek harmony in discordance.
Formation
BFWSP was formed in late 2005. Members were old acquaintances in college, but were separate in various bands performing different styles of music. After graduation, guitarist TripleJohn, bassist Ethan, and guitarist/harmonica 190 pursued graduate educations in Taipei, their hard-to-put-off enthusiasms for music have made them to continue their music careers as a band. At first they covered songs from Indie/Noise Pop bands, and then start writing their own material by combining music genres they are best at as an individual. They have also brought in their junior in college, Frankie, to work on percussion.
The name BFWSP is the brainchild of their members. By realize that the most important thing in life is to "Keep Your Faith and Pace", and therefore thrown in "Faith" and "Pace" into their band name. On the other hand, "Black" and “Sonic" reflects the chaotic and ever-changing environment they live in. Combining all these elements became "Black Faith with Sonic Pace".
Music Style
Earlier creations of the band recalls heavily of Noise Pop, afterwards introducing Alternative Folk/Rock into the mix, hoping to recreate the rock sound of the 70s and 80s. The band emphasizes in the melody of the music, richness of the harmony and percussion, and experiments in blending in more elements and instruments into their music. During their live performance, it is not rare to find each of the four members utilizing multiple instruments at the same time, which is special among bands in Taiwanese underground scene. All of the members are able to compose music and write lyrics, and perform as vocal for their creations.
