Engine Studios

About Me

Engine Music Studios opened in 1999 and is located in Chicago's convienent and popular Bucktown neighborhood. Engine features two state of the art studios, each with a different emphasis: Studio A is a classic mix room, featuring a meticulously maintained SSL 4000 with automation, high end analogue outboard, and world class processing, including a 1958 EMT plate reverb. Studio B is a sizeable workspace ideal for tracking large ensembles, be they rock, jazz, or orchestra. It includes a live room with 25 foot high ceilings and skylights, and one of the largest control rooms in the city. Both studios have 2" 24 track analogue machines and Pro Tools HD rigs, giving you the best of classic and contemporary sounds!
Production staff includes noted producer Brian Deck, who has recently worked with the likes of Iron and Wine, Ben Weaver, Califone, the Counting Crows, and Margot & the Nuclear So and Sos. Also on board as producer / head staff engineer is Neil Strauch. His credits include Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Anathallo, Chin Up Chin Up, Ezra Furman, as well as Ben Weaver and Margot & the Nuclear So and Sos. Balthazar de Ley, our lovely and ingenious technician, is also a local engineer and producer, having worked bands such as Bang!Bang!, the Tennis Courts, David Singer, and many others. Jake Westermann is our newest recruit. After freelancing a bit at the studio, we couldn't help ourselves and had to hire him.
Clients of either studio are afforded amenities galore, such as private lounges, cable access, and high speed wireless internet. We also offer plenty of instruments, drums, and amplifiers for our clients free of charge. These include full drumsets by Ludwig, Dunnet, DW, and Leedy, amps by Vox, Marshall and Fender, and some pretty cool guitars to boot. Our full sized Kawai Grand, Hammond Organ with Leslie cabinet, Fender Rhodes, and analogue synth collection round out the impressive selection of goodies Engine offers for your noisemaking pleasure.
