CirqueDufunk was created in February 2004 to offer a different kind of night, with old and new school funk with djs playing alongside top musicians.Many top djs and musicians have played to the CirqueDuFunk crowd including Norman Jay (MBE, good times sound system), Pete Simpson (Vocals, Sunburst Band, Mark Rae) and Sean Ward (Bass, Simply Red).The CirqueDuFunk djs cover many genres of music with a heavy influence of happy funky vibes from the soul sound of the 50s through to the funk from the 60s and modern day.Resident djs Dan Metcalfe, Paul Metcalfe, Danny Mager and Lucien all have their own unique styles and are rotated monthly keeping the night varied and original. The live element can set the crowd alive by watching excellent musician's jam over the top of funk instrumentals.The magical vocals of Pete Simpson electrify the crowd as he sings to the audience in his unique style. Pete?s recent projects include providing vocals for Joey Negro's Sunburst Band, touring with Mark Rae and featuring on his acclaimed 'Into the Depths' album. Two tracks that Pete provided vocals on won Hype chart of the year positions with 'Sunburst Band - Flyaway' at number one and 'John Cutlers - Running' at number 18. It's safe to say that Pete has an excellent career ahead of him and plays a valued part in the CirqueDuFunk team.Our resident percussionist Dave Webb has been part of the team for over a year and plays an energetic style lifting the crowd as he goes. Dave has played at many house events including Global Gathering and many big nights in Sheffield like Therapy and Pin Up Club.We also have many other guest musicians including Sean Ward, who was formerly the bass player of the international band Simply Red and now an acclaimed producer. There are also many talented saxophone and trumpet players at our disposal and on some occasions we have had a total of seven musicians playing alongside our djs.The CirqueDuFunk team have now started their own productions and the 1st release is a cover of 'David Bendeths - Feel the Reel' will be released this summer.
