I still can't quite recall what dizzying heights of hallucination I was flying through as I first heard that tender yet toxic, sweet group of chords that would become the Rez song ‘Puddles.’ I was hanging my head in practical delirium while Dave, in typical Dave fashion, had quietly disappeared into a corner to make love to a guitar. I ran frantically to my bass as if the fate of the universe depended on it, and at the time, it did. In the distance, I heard a set of congas creep in, followed by drums, keys, sax, and trumpet. No one can be sure if the jam went on for three hours or three lifetimes, but in that moment an unbreakable musical and spiritual bond was forged betwixt that group of people which has never ceased to call us higher. That is the moment that I consider the beginning of The Rez. ~manmoe
The story of The Rez begins in 2004 with a 4-track tape recorder, three microphones, a drum kit, two guitars, and a bass in a basement without boundaries. Over the next few years, we would surround ourselves with walls of sound, recording jam after jam, some lasting over an hour. In 2007, we invited some fellow musicians over to take part in our epic jams. With the addition of a keyboard, brass, and a few different rhythmic elements, the quartet became a septet. Since then we've brought some psychadelic funk to the Twin Ports music scene. In the past year, we have also been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to work with Pachyderm Studios, recording and playing festivals in Cannon Falls, MN. With seven minds working together, there's no shortage of ideas. Add the passion we all share for music and you have a recipe for what can only be described as The Rez. Why do we do this? To feed our egos? Therapy for our emotional instability? An excuse to make a lot of noise? In the words of a much wiser man:
"Because when the music hits you, you feel no pain."
