SKANARCHY TRILOGY
Here you have it, a three Ska Punk, Various Artists Cd’s. These Classic Ska Punk cd Releases were created with the energy of many Artists and Fans.
Back in 1992, the Tune Inn Café opened in New Haven CT, and quickly became the center stage to hear Punk, Ska and Hardcore. The Tune Inn walls and ceiling pipes exploded from this energy, while outside on Center Street the local scenesters would be skating, trading zines, cassettes, videos, and patches. If you didn’t arrive there by 8 pm your chance to get in was slim, unless someone sneaked you in thru the sidedoor or someone left.Out of this energy came some of the bands who helped to create and establish the music that later coined the phrase: SKA 3rd wave.
The bands who helped to create and build this magnificent ska punk scene were, JC Superska, Spring Heeled Jack, The Snappers, Mr. Crancky, NY Citizens, Seed, Hi Hats, Thumper, Skavoovie and the Epitones, Perfect Thyroid, Jiker, Mock Turtle Soup, Nigel 6, Sgt. Scagnetti, Can’t Say, Ska King Crab, Lo Fi Big Band, Agent 99,Golgo 13, The Radiation Kings, Rudie Brass, Inward Variation, Not For Resale,Choke Puppy, The Mugwams Big D and the Kids Table, Kicked in the Head and Johnny Too Bad and the Strikeouts. After the word got out to other parts of country and Fernando felt comfortable and capable to offer established names like The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, The Toasters, Mephiskapheles, Less Than Jake, Bim Skala Bim and Voodoo Glow Skulls a guarantee, the atmosphere expanded and every few months we would throw a SKANKSGIVING weekend long SkaFest, with a few bigger names, like Spring Heeled Jack or JC Superska, The Toasters or the Bosstones, Thumper, and introduced new bands to the scene, such as The Blue Meanies, MU330’s, Mustard Plug, The Slackers, The Pacers, The Smooths, The Invaders, The Independents, The Planet Smashers, The Porkers, Active Culture, Magadog, The Instigators, The Pilfers, Against All Authority, Chokin’ Victim, One Eye Open, Yokozuna Ichiban, Son of Sam, The Eclectics, Venice Shoreline Chris, Easy Big Fella, The Defectos, The Skoi!dats, Siren Six, and many many others, came along to get exposure and become known in this healthy scene.
Skanksgiving The Tune Inn wasn't just one of the biggest and most generous places to see ska in the '90s, it was one of the first clubs in the state to embrace the revived Jamaican-tinged rock genre, which captivated high schoolers statewide. The already frequent ska nights would culminate in bigger-than-usual bills scheduled to fall when college kids were home for the holidays. A Nov. 24, 1995, "Skanksgiving" event featured The Lo Fi Big Band, Nigel 6, The Snappers, The Instigators, Jiker and Seed. I'm not sure if Skalloween, Chriskamas or Skarbor Day were ever celebrated, but they should've been. Homegrown ska stars who held down the fort year-round included JC Superska, Sgt. Scagnetti, and the mightiest of them all, Springheeled Jack. - Christopher Arnott /New Haven AdvocateMost of these bands didn't have any releases on cd yet. Out of necessity to fill the demand, Tune Inn’s owner Fernando Pinto created Elevator Music and released SKANARCHY Volume One, featuring all the bands that were popular at his club, the name Skanarchy, came from a local musician Ed Leonard who ounce referred to the scene around The Tune Inn as Skanarchy, and all The Skanarchy cd’s cover art, animation was draw by artist and ex-vocalist of Boiling Man, Todd Rogers and reflects true experiences with local Authorities.
Just a few paragraphs to educate those who came after it happened.
