About Me

Sean Perrin is a fourth year Bachelor of Music student studying with Steve Amsel at the University of Calgary and is specializing in clarinet performance. In addition to the clarinet, Sean has ability on drum set, other percussion, piano, laptop, and is dabbling with the guitar in his spare time.
As a clarinetist Sean is an active local performer and, in addition to solo recitals, has performed with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, The University of Calgary Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, and New Music Ensemble, and various other chamber ensembles. His involvement with the U of C Wind Ensemble has included tours throughout the United States and Canada, performing on two commercially available studio releases, actively participating on the executive committee, and being elected Concertmaster for the 2008/09 season. He recently performed Philip Glass’ “Low” symphony with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra as part of the “High Performance Rodeo,” an event which featured Philip Glass himself as artist-in-residence. This performance was broadcast nationally on CBC Radio, and is available in streaming audio format on their website.
In December 2007 the independent film director Pascalle Robitaille used Sean's "documentary-style" electroacoustic piece "Suburbia" in a short film which was shown at Canadian film festivals in 2008 and is available on DVD from the director.
Sean has performed extra percussion on stage four times for Keith Urban and Shania Twain concerts in Calgary, and will briefly appear in Keith Urban's upcoming live DVD.
As a self-appointed “naive experimental photographer” Sean has had his work displayed in three galleries since it debuted in August 2007 (Artpoint, University of Calgary Fine Arts, and University of Calgary Little Gallery).
One of Sean's musical dreams is to meet composer Arvo Pärt in his current hometown of Berlin... but only time will tell. He is currently teaching, performing, working on various musical projects, and reading incessantly about urban planning and design, Glenn Gould, drug prohibition, existentialism, and atheism to pass the time...
