Blues, Funk, Jazz, Soul, Rock Guitar

About Me

Jamey Arent is a guitar player influenced by the greats of blues, jazz, soul, funk and R&B. He began playing at age 12 with the inspiration from a Beatles video and made the blues his home soon thereafter. He has played in various bands and been featured at various clubs, private parties, weddings and even played two nights at B.B. King's Blues Club in Memphis opening for Preston Shannon and Ruby Wilson. In addition, Jamey was inducted into the Colorado All-State Jazz Band for 2004 and 2005, and was the co-winner of the 2005 Downbeat Magazine Student Award for best Blues/Pop/Rock soloist. Jamey was featured in Mike Varney's Spotlight in the November 2005 issue of Guitar Player Magazine. Jamey has also played with Robert Randolph & The Family Band, Slide Hampton, members of The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, The Delta-Sonics, and Matt Tutor. He has studied guitar with Bobby Ferrazza, Mitch Chmara, Johnny Hiland and Wayne Sturdy as well studied jazz with Robin Eubanks, Marcus Belgrave, Peter Dominguez, Wendell Logan, Paul Samuels, Dan Wall, Steve Holley and Eric Gunnison. He currently is attending the prestigious Oberlin Conservatory continuing his studies of jazz, the guitar and music theory. Jamey is also guitarist in the Oberlin, Ohio based funk/soul project The Sauce.Grammy award winning producer John Snyder calls Jamey "an excellent player who is fun to listen to". Guitar Player Magazine Columnist, Bay Area Record Producer and owner of Shrapnel, Blues Bureau and Tone Center Records,Mike Varney says "Arent's demo reveals him to be a stunning player with a style some might call bluesion, straddling blues, jazz, and rock, and he has the ability to take long solos that are head-and-shoulders above most Stevie Ray Vaughanabees. There are lots of young guitarists who one day will likely be great, but 18-year-old Arent is already great." (Guitar Player Magazine, November 2005)
