Myspace Layouts by Pimp-My-Profile.com
I play folk and I get to play once a month at Ron Sowell's Open Stage at the Unity Church in Charleston, WV, a great place for even the most novice musician to get a bit of time on stage. From the first time performer to a 30 year veteran, everyone is welcome. It is a very encouraging atomosphere.I am drawn to songs that I would describe this way. If I may borrow a few words from David Wilcox's Myspace page, "Songs that are wake up calls to the heart, balm for the soul." Mostly introspective, an articulate avenue of what one feels in the deepest spaces of their souls.I search out songs with that content. I consider Peter Mayer, David Wilcox, John Gorka, Richard Shindell, Bruce Cockburn, John McCutcheon, Bob Franke, Johnsmith, John Flynn, Carrie Newcomer, Beth Nielsen Chapman, Cheryl Wheeler and probably many more as my musical heroes for that reason. I think it is a bit ironic that John Gorka wrote "Heroes" and it states "They say when it comes to choosing heroes, It's best to pick the ones who aren't around. If you choose among the living, You tend to have misgivings, When your hero lets you down."It goes on to state, "If someday I'm mistaken for a hero, I hope it's only when I'm gone. Some of us are heroes, Some of us are zeroes, But who is who when all is said and done."It's words like that make you my heroes. Sorry John, you are one if you want to be one or not.I have finally started to record. It might be a long process but it has begun.
