About Me

Petri Krzywacki has worked as a professional musician since the mid nineties. He is a sought after player for gigs of various styles and he delivers playing that is refined, sophisticated but emotionally charged. In May 2007, he released his debut CD, One Step Out, a bold trio outing with mostly original compositions. It highlights some aspects of his playing: his harmonically innovative style and his compositions that are simultaneously contemporary and traditional in nature.
Krzywacki turned to music in his late teens, rock being his initial introduction to the guitar. He soon started seeking out jazz players that were closer to what he was looking for in music. Two important records that really made an impact on him were "Coltrane Plays the Blues" and Larry Carlton's "Last Nite". He attended the Pop & Jazz Conservatory in Helsinki for formal education and started doing different kinds of gigs around 1995.
With One Step Out, Krzywacki finds a way to bring together the different influences on his ecletic style; the funky blues-based New Orleans flavor, the harmonically adventurous compositional style plus the guitar style that is shaped by his influences and molded by years of rigorous gigging and practicing.During his playing career, Krzywacki has played with Leroy Jones and Ed Thigpen, among others. A student of music for life, Krzywacki feels that individual expression stems from knowing the history of the music and one’s relationship to it. Through his website and email, he is available for teaching and gigs.
”He's got everything, style, a sophisticated harmonic concept, and chops. He also has the ability to appeal to both very modern players and traditionalists all at the same time.” Brian Kelly, CD Baby review
”…a great sense of 'touch'...” ” Plays well constructed solos, and his chordal work is top notch.” Doc Dosco, Jazz Guitar Weekly

Winter at last

Well, now it looks like winter - we'll see how long this will last. The absence of light is replaced with the white glow of the snow. It's a significant improvement, something to live off of.Still nav...

Clare Fischer & raising the bar

I'm totally into Clare Fischer's music at the moment. Got the "Music Of Clare Fischer, volume 1" book and trying to find ways to do that stuff on the guitar. To put it bluntly, he makes every other ja...

Back in business

Just did my first gig after the accident. The finger is still a little stiff but I can bend it quite a bit and the wound is closing up nicely. With some creative on-the-spot desicions I was able to pl...

Some (slight) progress to be seen

Isn't life just spectacular. A warning for anyone planning to injure him/herself: make sure that you're an expert on the kind of injury you've inflicted on yourself before letting anyone give you advi...

Ax accident (axident?)

Had a bit of an accident while chopping wood yesterday - not too serious but won't be able to play the guitar until June 4th. Since it's not that serious I can now see it as a healthy reminder for me ...

Job (well?) done

Played the big band gig yesterday with pretty good results. All in all, with just two rehearsals we got it together fairly decently. Of course with more rehearsals you get into stuff like dynamics, nu...

Winter... at last?

I'm so disappointed. What do we need this late excuse of a winter for? Let's have a decent one or else just let me get on with getting the BBQ season started!! Now it's just more of shoveling snow for...

Snow! ...finally

Back from Ylläs - what a gentleman band. Working, watching tv, going to sauna, going to the gig... the only vice was a couple of after-gig sausages. Got half an arrangement done, don't know if it...
