I enjoy travelling to remote places and learning about different cultures,
one of my passions in life is capturing the essence of a place or a moment
in a photograph. This is something I am continually growing with and
developing. Through my photography I hope to share images that evoke
thoughts challenging the way people view the world. Capitalist ideals now
seem to dominate globally, the developing world is becoming bullied in to
taking the highway to the American dream as if it were the only road to
improvement. Even the communists have gone capitalist now. I don’t
believe that western culture or captialism is the best way for the world to
develop with sustainability.
Below is a photo of the street art in La Havana, the paintings in yellow
are by Brasilian artists OSGEMEOS twin brothers that paint simultaneously.
Personally, I like to challenge myself with new endeavours and one
of the things I fear most is stagnating. I have recently moved to Mexico
and have spent the last year living in Mexico City. Although, I was tired
of city life in London I have enjoyed living in one of the biggest cities in the
world. This Megalopolis has some very endearing and interesting features
hidden behind the tower blocks but also some that are not so, such as the
pollution and a scary amount of traffic. However, once you start to move
around, it becomes a city you cant help loving. I live in an area called
La Condesa full of delicious restaurants and lively bars, next to a beautiful
park called Parque Mexico. I am currently teaching English in a billingual
school in Las Lomas. I am a teacher who feels that continually challenging
myself is important to my personal growth and the more I grow the more I
can teach. I believe that the most important motive of education is to
empower people to teach themselves.
As of August 2008 I will be living in a town called Tepoztlan in the mountains
south of Mexico City. I am opening an alternative school named Terramar
with an Artist, a Biologist, a Psychologist and a Musician. Sounds like a bad
joke but it is a very exciting project that will be teaching primary school
children in a holistic way. Integrating curriculum subjects through projects
based on a wide range of themes, with relevance to the world today and the
culture of Tepoztlan. Thereby giving an equal emphasis to language,
the arts, mathematics and sciences and allowing freedom for individuals
to direct their projects...
