Last Chance Corral

About Me

At The Last Chance Corral, we work to alleviate the suffering and senseless slaughter of domestic equine and to provide an environment for rehabilitation and carefully selected adoptive homes that are appropriate for each horse's individual needs and abilities. At the age of 12 Victoria rescued her first horse. Since 1968, she has always taken in the horses that everyone has given up on to try to turn their life around by giving them one last chance. One or two at a time, horses have come in and out of her life inspiring her to firmly believe that there is always a horse out there in need of refuge, always a need for someone to feel responsible and intervene on that animal's behalf. Establishing the Last Chance Corral in 1986 was the realization of her vision of creating a much-needed facility to offer horses asylum. Today, the Last Chance Corral proudly offers all horses hope, shelter, and opportunity regardless of their situation or problems. Be it psychological or physiological we are committed to addressing the individual needs of each rescued animal. Our work begins with developing an individual diet, treatment regiments, and training program for each horse according to its needs. When a horse has been sufficiently rehabilitated we go about the work of finding appropriate adoptive homes that suit the horse's needs and abilities.Awards The horses that arrive at the L.C.C. represent a wide spectrum that includes horses as varied as the people that own them and the disciplines that they use them in. Not all horses that come into the L.C.C. are infirm; actually, few among them are. Most are simply unwanted. Situations such as children leaving for college, divorce, and relocation can leave a horse with no place to go. The alternative of the sale house offers a potentially grim solution that most owners would rather avoid. The economy, being what it is, has many people having to face serious cutbacks in their lifestyles so that they might care for their own families. Often this means saying goodbye to a friend. Many people find comfort in placing their beloved pet through an adoption agency rather than a straight out sale. Often this assures the horse's safe future. Some of our equine friends come to us as a tax write off for their owners, meaning fundraisers for us. A horse like this will command a higher adoption fee and, in turn, will help save another 10 horses!!! Shopping at a rescue could very well get you an incredible bargain on a terrific horse while saving other horses from slaughter. We post our horses on this website and update it regularly. On any given day you might find a variety of horses that range from a mighty draft to a mini, a cart pony to a race horse. All of them are looking for just the right home - perhaps that home is yours.Although all horses are welcome with open arms, we have two core programs that consume a great deal of our time and funding. Our Thoroughbred Donation/Adoption Program annually caters to 40 – 50 horses. The second program is the Nurse Mare Foal Rescue Project that has progressively grown to save over 164 foals last year and we are aiming at 200 in 2006.If you see a horse that sparks your interest, please give Victoria a call for more details. Don't be discouraged if we say that it is not the right horse for you. We try hard to match a horse's abilities with the adoptive owner. All of our adoptions are guaranteed, and if you do not find the horse to be what you wanted you are welcome to bring it back. In fact, we insist that you bring it back. At that point we will look for a more appropriate horse for you and a more appropriate home for the horse. We like to think that there is a lid for every pot and we will leave no stone unturned until we find it.
