Libido Blume raged the live music scene of Athens during the mid-eighties.
The band was formed from the ashes of Captain Nephos in Athens, Nov. 1984. Akis Boyatzis (formerly with Captain Nephos and currently with Sigmatropic), after a short period's collaboration with Yiannis Drennoyiannis (later of Yeah!) united with old pals Dimitris Stergiou and Dimitris Bourousas with a powerful "modern rock n' roll" quartet in mind. After auditioning several guitar players, the band hired Stelios Habipis as the forth member of Libido Blume.
Libido Blume's music was a mix of garage nostalgia, electro-pop, electro-funk and post-punk. The band carried on with the success that Captain Nephos had in their live shows, and soon signed with the independent label "Dikaioma Diavasis", later Di-Di Music (now responsible for huge rock festivals in Greece, such as Rockwave). They released two vinyl LP's and one EP between the years 1985 and 1987. Their monumental appearance in the Thessaloniki Biennale of Young Mediterranean Artists (November 1986) was a landmark in their career, as well as their guest appearance opening for bands like The Dream Syndicate, The Three Johns and Les Thugs. Jon Langford (of The Mekons and The Three Johns) was the producer of their final LP in 1987.
Later on, Akis left Greece for a two years' period in the US and Libido Blume went on performing live with a session bass player until 1990, when Akis rejoined the band for a few final shows.
Besides the three vinyl releases and sparse live recordings, the band left no other material. Even fewer photo sessions and a couple of live video shootings completed the documents list.
Until now, various discussions were made about the possibility of re-releasing the Libido Blume material in cd format, but with no results so far. Some cold February evening of the year 2007 Stergiou called Akis with a cassette tape in his hand having some of their live material recorded on it. This is the featured material of this My Space site. After all these years, we thought that it is worth having the world listen to it. Libido Blume's My Space friends' feedback is very much appreciated.
