Beauty and the Beat is an annual music and fashion extravaganza featuring some of the hottest, most happening, bands, fashion designers, and models all on one stage for one night of fun, fashion, and social awareness!
More than just your typical fashion show or music concert, Beauty and the Beat is an event that seeks to raise awareness of specific social justice issues in an environment of artistic collaboration.
Our goals include providing an artistic cultural experience for the city of Flint, highlighting social justice issues, providing a showcase for local artists and performers, and dismantling the traditional barriers between artistic mediums by fostering working relationships among artists.
Beauty and the Beat seeks to not only present, but celebrate many diverse voices, sizes, sounds, and perspectives! This year, Beauty and the Beat will highlight Planned Parenthood of East Central Michigan as a social justice agency committed to protecting access to reproductive health care and education in its larger focus on healthy bodies. This year, we plan to draw attention to body image, women’s health, and sexual health.
Committee Members for this event are: Natasha Thomas (Theory), Crystal Pepperdine, Tunde Olaniran, Jessica Nickola, Summer Awad, and Oliva Brown. Sponsors are LINK, Red Ink Flint, Somerset Salon, GFAC and The Creative Alliance.
