The Funk Chorus is a collaboration between artists Barby Asante and Andrea Encinas.Using their shared talents of singing, bringing people together, also their love of music and most of all having fun, The Funk Chorus is a non professional choir who's choral repertoire is made up of some classic and some obscure funk songs. The Funk Chorus began living in August 2006 as part of Harold Offeh's Mothership Collective at the at the South London Gallery. This is where we began to work out our way of working, inviting participation from anyone who's up for it, learning the songs in intense workshops, leading up to our FUNKY performances. From our humble beginings we have gone from strength to strength with over 55 people on our database and workshops and peformances at the launch of the African and Asian Artists Archive at Victoria Miro, in collaboration with Sonia Boyce, the Hayward Gallery's Dot Party and our up coming workshops and perfomances at Late at Tate Britain and The National Portrait Gallery.
