I have been playing the darbuka since 1994 when a friend of mine handed me a drum at a drum circle I stumbled upon. He said to me, "You know how to drum, don't you?". I had never played any percussion before that night, but was willing to try. I watched his and other drummers hands and made mine do what theirs were doing and was hooked from that night! I've been told that I have a very "crisp and clean" sound and that I have a gift for keeping the rhythms interesting and dynamic. I have also been comlimented on my ability to truly "listen" to the other musicians in the group and play to them and the melody.
