About Me

I'm an old folksinger. I love the very old tunes, the ones we learned when I was a kid. They had mystery and humor and unforgettable characters. I sang professionally for about 15 years, thoughout my twenties and early thirties. The last ten years, I've been singing in regional contests held at festivals and instrumental competitions. I've had good luck and won a bunch of 'em. For details on my entire musical career -- and information on my design work -- check out my web site at susiecoleman.com

Influences: Many folks made a big musical impression on me: my mother, Opal Coleman Smith, and her sister, Shirley Hubbard Frey; Emmylou Harris; John Prine; Dolly Parton; Linda Ronstandt; Simon & Garfunckel; Hank Williams Sr.; Eddie Arnold; the Hootenanny era; Carole King; Steve Earle; John Denver; Carly Simon; the Beatles; Willie Nelson; Merle Haggard; Doc Watson; Tony Rice; Anne Murray; David Grier; Patsy Cline; Pete Seeger; Alameda Riddle; Alan O'Bryant; Kirk Pickering; and the huge collection of inspiring traditional tunes handed down throughout the centuries. There are many others who have had a hand in my development as a musician whose names may not be as well known as those listed, but are every bit as important to me. I appreciated your patience and helpfulness, and I assure you, no matter how oppositional I might have appeared, I WAS listening. Thank you for your advice and guidance.
