Syntone was birthed on the eve of a 3 week rap binge, in January 2007. Sub-zero temperatures and gray skies served as the amniotic fluid for the sack-o-rappers soon to pop out the bloated stomach which was/is Syracuse, NY. Shivering and detoxing these runts searched for a fix in their first hours of life. Stumbling upon dealers and pushers they were guided through their first shit storm which would soon materialize as the 2007 Deadly Sins. A concept record, it took on a modern day interpretation and manifestation of the sins used for countless years in Christian teachings. Each song took an approach to applying the sin to modern social practices. These approaches ranged from disconnected rants to well calculated stories, all in a back-and-forth traditional hip hop duo sense, with an updated sound and identity.
Shortly after finishing 2007 Deadly Sins, Mannotone, 1/2 of Syntone, moved to Phoenix, Arizona to pursue Life in a warmer climate. Still reeling from the previous hip hop binge and trying to stay clean, Mannotone only made it to the summer before he came back for a taste of more. The two set up shop in Rochester, NY, opting to record everything themselves in Syntax’s makeshift studio. In less than a month they had written and recorded a full length effort. Deeply rooted in chops and syllables, a rappers rapper record was born. A wide array of topics were tackled including hip hop politics, DIY ethic, religion, growing up and well, more hip hop stuff. Syntonic is 13 track deep album which signifies a progression in sound and a hint at the direction of music to come.
