Victoria Baptiste is an Aboriginal digital film maker from the Okanagan Nation. I am a writer and director and specilaize in creating short films which dramatize the controversial issues which surround todays Aboriginal people. I like to make films that matter and I prefer to take a controversial subject and I only show 'just enough' to instigate thought and discussions in peoples ideas, opinions and actions about Aboriginal people, issues causes and concerns. I do this by reaching my audiences on a personal level and by taking them to a place where they can see, feel and hear things from the viewpoint of the Aboriginal people.
To date I have produced and directed several controversial short films. My favorite one and the one I feel most srongly about is 'REZCUE ME'. A five minute short film that is a dramatization of residential school and brings forth the issue of sexual abuse in residential school. It stars Josh Webster and introduces 6- year old Alexis Taylor.
I am also a music video director and have produced two music videos to date. One for Aboriginal hip hop Artist Willy Swite for his song "A Warriors Anthem" and another for the song 'Is there' by 7th Generation'.I am an avid photographer and like to take pictures of people, places and things. I take pride in capturing moments and allowing time to stand still for all eternity. This is a gift and a part of my craft in which I am always developing.
I have also begun to dabble in the computer graffix and the web design industries and have created graffix and webpages for the En'owkin Centre for the ECOmmunity Place Heritage Tours and Okanagan First Peoples projects and programs. Although I have received training and experience in these areas, they are not my general areas of expertise.
