Jeff Burton

About Me

Brought up in a musical household, Jeff took to music early. Steered into folk music by his father at the end of the folk boom of the 60's, he was influenced by 'newcomers' like Don Maclean, Bob Dylan and Paul Simon as well as the older generation like Pete Seeger.
Lately Jeff's attention has turned to the classic jazz standards and his original music which seeks to emulate them.
Jeff Burton is a songwriter with a gift for a well-constructed lyric and catchy tunes. He co-wrote 'Memories and Dreams' with Michael Fix for Slim Dusty. He has written over a hundred original songs in a variety of genres from jazz to country. As a performer, he has a gentle but sophisticated touch. In 2001, Jeff was warded an Australia day medal for his contribution to the Arts in the Cambooya Shire. He also won best male vocalist at the Warwick Country Music Festival.
Jeff has moved to the Northern Rivers region of NSW after a long career teaching in Queensland. Here, Jeff tends his family and cat, writes songs, and busks in the streets of Lismore, Byron Bay and Bangalow.
In 2009, Jeff was a finalist for best jazz song in the Dolphin Awards.

Goodbye Dreams

In my quest to write some of the most old fashioned sounding music I can, I added this one to the canon today. It literally came out of nowhere. I've been fiddling in the key of G with A7 chord played...

Another Song

I wrote this song a LONG time ago, at least 20 years. In one sense it's depressing because it stands up just as well as anything I'm writing now. So much for development as an artist! On the other han...

Inside

Here is a song I'm not sure about. It sat on my computer for nearly a week. It's another song that tries to avoid the old I, IV, V chord structure. In it I use I9, IV7, II7, IVm7, bVII9. Weird, huh? T...

Rocky Creek Dam

Last Thursady I went on a ginko. A ginko is a seaonal walk taken by Haiku poets. There is a small group of Haiku poets here. Apparently, outside of Japan, Australia is considered to be foremost in dev...

Another Point of View (Again)

Well, I hated that latin version!Honestly, isn't it a little ironic that I can't decide how to play a song called 'Another Point of View'?

Judgement Day

Here is yet another attempt in my adventures in minimalism. It could almost have been a single voice, unaccompanied, but I chose to record it as I wrote it, with the guitar providing a bare skeleton.O...

Come Another Morning

I wrote this song today (Sunday, 12th April, 2009). I had been thinking for some time I'd like to write a song with longer passages on the same chord, in contrast to many of the jazz type songs I do w...

With 10 songs now able to fit on our profiles, I needed to do something fast! Of course I didn't, but having that extra space I burned with desire to fill it.I've had 'Long After Midnight' for some ti...
