Red Hot Chili Peppers supporting young musicians
Red Hot Chili Peppers lead singer Anthony Kiedis told RollingStone.com this week that his favorite new band in Los Angeles has a combined age of 49. The group is called the Jack Bambis and features one girl on vocals and three boys on drums, bass and guitar, with all of them between the ages of 12 and 13. Kiedis said about the band, "They became my favorite musical experience of 2006. They're phenomenal -- whenever they'd play I'd find a way to get to the show. They're speaking from their spirits. It reminds me of our glory days in the early '80s."
One of the band members, drummer Cash, is a graduate of a Los Angeles music conservatory actually operated by Chili Peppers bassist Flea, who spoke about the school's mission: "It's a non-profit school, we have about 600 students, and it's a real happy feeling for me just to try to encourage people and give them the opportunity to express themselves, 'cause for me, everybody has a song inside of them and for it not to be sung is, you know, the great tragedy of life. I love to encourage people to be good at what they could be good at."
