About Me
A Key West resident and artist for over 20 years. I am a self taught artist, driven by hunger, and helping others by way of my artistic talents. I began painting shortly after arriving in the keys.I lived on a 42 ft wood hull boat and scraped out a living while pursuing this field. Following a dream I've had since a child, I would find my nitch by painting peoples automobiles. "From a handshake to a hundred dollars" you could drive around original works of art by Rick himself or a Dali or a Chagall. Most of which centered around the car owners personality. Which invents the pun that the cars were my vehicle for learning to paint.I have created well over 50 cars in my time here and so many at one point that art was brought to all corners of this tiny little island. It funk e fied the town and made many people smile. They added an attraction and oddness that Key West is well known for. I paint with enamels, the latex kind. I love to paint on found objects, such as shutters and metal roofing shingles I call "Candy Bars", (or sweet little paintings), as well as your traditional canvas. You can find my work all over the Florida Keys from Plantation to Key West on buildings, cars, at the theatre, and many of our fine homes and hotels. My work varies, crossing the line between impressionism and realism. I enjoy making powerful paintings for public areas. I enjoy to mix historical / local color, and humor into my pieces, and show my work through Lucky Street Gallery on famous Duval Street. The Three Legged Dog Studio honestly had a famous mascot named Kido. He unfortunately lost a hind leg when very young, thus dropping the extra "d" in the spelling of his name. He was a great and faithful companion for nearly 18 years. Sadly he died two years ago, but his memories still live on. I created an art class in his name, the Three Legged Dog Art Academy. Its been running now for over 7 years, where I teach both children and adults in the techniques I have uncovered during my years of spreading around paint. Just for your information, all paintings shown here are spoken for and I only paint original works for my clients. Some styles lend themselves to repetitiveness, but the bulk of my works are one of a kind. Background By MySpaceDogDog.com
