SHIVGANGA EXPRESS

About Me

Named after the train that takes you from Delhi to Varanasi, SHIVGANGA EXPRESS is a duo that plays north indian classical music. The focus lies on improvisation, interplay and exploration of rythmic and melodic concepts within the raga structure.
KG West first came in contact with indian music in 1997 when his father moved to Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala. Already a accomplished guitar player, KG started to learn the Saraswati Vheena. After a few trips to India he finally picked up the sitar in 2004, and has since then been taking lessons from Stian Grimstad in hindustani music. In 2008 he started learning from Rabindra Narayan Goswami who is a senior sitar master of Varanasi.
Hugo Widén has been a percussionist since 1992. He got interested in indian music and started learning regularly from Suranjana Gosh of the Lucknow Gharana in 2004. Hugo has ever since been taking lessons in both Sweden and India. Suranjana is one of few professional female tabla players.
