Matan Rubinstein

Born in Israel in 1975, Matan began his involvement with music from a young age receiving classical training for piano. At age 15, having been exposed to the work of Cecil Taylor and other music of the Jazz Avant-garde, he turned to improvisation as a primary interest. Matan has composed music in a variety of contexts and venues: from works for orchestra and chamber groups (with and without electronics), to Jazz Orchestras and combos, to Electronica, as well as projects for film, television and interactive media. He has been active internationally as a pianist and a Synthesizer / electronics operator in Jazz and Contemporary concert music. Recent projects include playing engagements with the Hanah Jon Taylor Artet, premiering his own Modular Music Ensemble, a Nine-piece Genre-bending group, the Sada Jazz Trio and a commission for a evening length work for the Li Chiao Ping Dance Company. Matan lives in Madison, Wisconsin.
