Pigs-R-Us

I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

I am a music fanatic and support the local music scene by going to MANY shows (I'm the old guy), buying the music (300 local CDs), and merchandise (even if the shirts don't fit). You'll also find me at art openings and film screenings with my lovely significant other, artist Anne George.
Although not a musician, I am a creative type. I am a Molecular Biologist and Faculty member at the University of Minnesota. Research in my lab is focused on developing a cure for Diabetes.
You all probably know that funding for the arts has taken a dive due to the economy and the war (gee, are these linked?) Well, so has research funding. NIH dropped its support from 20% of projects a few years ago, down to 7%. Meanwhile, Diabetes marches on.
Musicians have incredible power to touch peoples lives, as evidenced by your gigantic friends lists on Myspace etc. That's why I am asking for your help. We are attempting a first (to my knowledge)- a grassroots research fundraising campaign for a specific achievable project! I am sick of mega-foundations paying 20% of their proceeds to administrative staff, or dividing the money across a zillion projects so that nothing really gets done. You can make a difference by supporting our very targeted project to make some special pigs that can provide a cellular therapy for Diabetes.

At "the point" you can make a small (or large!) pledge-but nobody gets charged a penny unless the total target is reached! And even if you can't contribute, please spread the word that we are trying to do something very special to cure Diabetes. Post our links on your sites, post the Java widget at "the point" on your sites, tell the world that we can all make a difference.

Can we cure Diabetes? YES WE CAN!

Please comment or email me. Should I sell T-shirts with our pic as a logo? Would you be willing to sell some at your shows? Maybe a fundraising concert would make sense? Anyone interested? I am totally open to suggestions!
Cheers, and remember;
The conditions for feedback follow the Barkhausen criterion, namely that an oscillation occurs in a feedback loop whose delay is an integer multiple of 360 degrees and the gain is equal to or greater than 1 (both at the given feedback frequency). If the gain is greater than 1, then the system can start to oscillate out of noise, that is to say: sound without anyone actually playing. :)
