At the heart and soul of the songs on Tony Kerr’s beautifully spellbinding album, 'Back There', is a strong sense of place, and a sense of both longing and belonging. Appropriate enough for an Irish-born singer-songwriter who now makes his home in Nashville.Moving to Nashville 12 years ago, Tony has worked with a number of well-respected writers including Pat Alger, Jimmy Mc Carthy as well as up and coming young artists and songwriters spanning an eclectic mix of styles, Tony says " it keeps me up to date and current in what the youth are listening to and both inspires and challenges me to write better songs".Tony's album features guest vocal performances from notable Nashville transplants Tim O’Brien and Ireland’s Maura O’Connell. Tony’s already enjoyed a measure of songwriting success in Ireland. His song, “Total Love,” by artist Mickey Harte ,received Gold status.Legendary Irish singers Mary Black (“Into the Blue”) and Francis Black (“A Kiss Doesn’t Make It Right”), both of whom he’s joined on tour in Ireland, In the US Kathie Baillie of Baillie and the Boys” {All fall Down} and the christmas song 'A Night like This'. Lori Mechem jazz Pianist and founder of the Nashville Jazz Workshop performed an instrumental version of "Island of Blue"for her album. "These Hands" was a featured song for Nashvilles Actors Bridge musical play "Faith and Doubt" .In Australia, Anne McCue {Don't Try} Tracey Killeen {Back There,} .Canada, Jon Raven {White Noise}. He’s also opened shows for John Prine Paul Brady Maura O'Connell and Nancy Griffith. In America, Tony’s performed several times at the much-revered Nashville songwriter’s Mecca, the Bluebird Café. Since joining ASCAP, Tony was the winner of the ‘Country Songwriters’ workshop hosted by Pat Algers “Once in a Very Blue Moon” and Tony Arata “The Dance”. Tony continues to write and perform in the Nashville area and is presently working on his second album . Tony's song "All fall down" was nominated for the "Spirit Award" best country category for 2007 .
