I am here for Friends

About Me

John David Cleland, I guess I'm 28, getting wise in my old age.I skateboard and ride my bike everywhere I need to go. Im the least lazy person I know.I'm also the laziest person I know. As you can see from looking at my photos I like to party with my friends, maybe I'll see you out sometime!

My Interests

I was born to ride a skateboard! I love going skating with my homies from Iowa. There is nothing better than cruising all over town with your bros hitting up all your favorite spots. I also like taking photos. I have a very photographic eye. I would say that I see more than your average person. I also enjoy just sitting outdoors observing life and thinking about random things. I know this sounds weird but I enjoy getting dressed. Something about putting on clean clothes everyday after a shower just makes me feel good, especially when I have some crisp new jeans and some fresh kicks that match whatever shirt I might be wearing.hahaha! Right now I would say my main interest is seeing the world. A few years ago I got a taste of Europe and now I cant wait to go back. When I do go back someday I am going to take so many pictures that I will need a seperate suit case for all my rolls of film.

I'd like to meet:

Skateboarders from all over, lets talk spots. People interested in photography and modern art, pop, dada, graffiti. Someone who lives in Amsterdam so we can talk about your amazing city.

Music:

Definitely one of my favorite groups to listen to is Radiohead. They are so badass and always doing something new. I respect groups that try new things and dont worry about what number they will reach on the charts. Radiohead is a band whose soul purpose is to please their fans and open the ears of new listeners. with every albumn they have put out no two songs sound remotely alike. That is true diversity and talent. However radiohead is not the only group in my case. I also listen to a lot of classic folk and rock. CSNY, Joan baez, Arlo Guthrie, Buffalo springfeild, Zepplin,CCRevival, Rolling stones, Richie Havens, and of course the beatles. For with out the beatles, i beleive music would not have progressed like it did and the world as we know it could have been really sucky. Simon and garfunkle are also among my favorites, i have my mother to thank for that. Damn I almost forgot janis joplin and grace slick, definitely the leading ladies from the summer of love. And atleast one or two tracks of the doors gets played on a daily basis. I used to be quite the hip hop fan, but as i matured i think my taste has too. I no longer listen to Bone. I will play some ghostface GZA, RZA, any Wu joint basically. Gangstarr is some true skate rat hip hop that will never die. Jeru the damaja has a sick delivery that never gets old. Kool Keith is a lyrical genius! In case you are wondering ill shoot Jay-z and 50 cent with no hesitation. Fuck those money hungry haters. 50 has an interview in the april 2004 playboy, so go in your dads closet and read that shit, i garauntee you will never play his wack tracks ever again. triffling ass hater is what he is. Other groups i like are Cat Power, the shins, pinback, placebo (for sure), explosions in the sky, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, miles davis, johnny cash, smashing pumpkins is ok sometimes (really loud), Can, rage against the machine(first albumn almost had me beating up the authority in high school daily), fuck, i even like sepultura(only with max cavalera though), Nick Drake has amazing talent, and last but not least, Chamber 450!

Movies:

My tatse in movies is very eclectic. I will watch anything from drama to cartoons to classics to war movies. The only movies I dont like are horror movies. i feel they are a waste of my time. But Saw was really good! Some of my favorite movies of all time are Big, Castaway, Forrest Gump, all indiana jones movies, Schindlers list, Magnolia, Hate la hein, Black rain, whats eating gilbert grape, Life is beautiful, The idiots, home alone!, scarface, Heat, Where eagles dare, donnie darko, Fear and loathing,Strange Brew, The natural, Thrashin', Gleaming the Cube, video days, mouse, photosynthesis, yeah right, hot chocolate, sorry, las nueves vidas de paco, mosaic,Shotgun, Keg Killer, Beer Slave, Static 2 and 411 issue 13 with bobby puleo cause he's like the dopest skater ever.

Television:

I don't see too much television because my cheap ass won't pay for cable. But when I do watch I like south park, intervention, campus ladies, sopranos, rome, curb your enthusiasm, and get smart!

Books:

I like reading true stories. Hunter thompson is my favorite author. HST is the most vibrant author of the last 50 years. aldous huxley wrote some great works, go to your library and pick up brave new world and the doors of perception. I like reading books that deal with conspiricies. I think ive read just about every book about JFK and MLK. I wont go into it now but if you want to know anything about what happened to the 2 greatest leaders our country has seen since honest abes time, just ask me. But if you are like me and want to read it for yourself, pick up some lit by jim garrison, smart is he, yes. the latest book i have enveloped is masters of death by pulitzer prize winning author Richard Rhodes, brutal history.

Heroes:

Mark Gonzales. Spike Jonze. Kenny Reed. Shane Williams(sk8 dad for life). Brassil Savage(need I explain?). Thom Yorke. Hunter Thompson. Victor E. Frankl. Fyodor Dostoevsky. That one guy who gave away all his money and disappeared into the Alaskan wilderness, kept a journal of his travels and died in an abandoned school bus.
